Stacking the Shelves #109 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

The last two weeks have been crazy busy with work and I fell behind with my blogging, reading and writing. I'm finally starting to get back on top of things though the process is slow. The next two weeks are also scheduled to be busy with more work and four birthday's to celebrate. Hopefully when August is done, things will settle back to normal. Fingers crossed.

Every Last Breath
(The Dark Elements #3)
by
Jennifer L. Armentrout

Some loves will last 'til your dying breath...

Every choice has consequences — but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin — the deadliest of demons — has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her...including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city — and her race — from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side — and then fight like hell...

Maybe Not
(Maybe #1.5)
by
Colleen Hoover

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Lengths
(Silver Strand #1)
by
Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt

First - The Blurb:

Nineteen-year-old Whit Conrad leaves her conservative Pennsylvania home for sunny California, looking for independence, a fresh start, and a place to stash her grief. She promptly finds a job at a tattoo parlor, a craptastic first apartment, and one friend—Ryan—who is a little less friend, a little more benefits.

Deo Beckett is a soulful surfer with a passion for tattoos and beautiful women. On the eve of his twenty-second birthday, he finds himself living with his grandfather, recently unemployed, and seriously adrift. He doesn’t know much about what he wants out of life, but he does know his current situation isn't cutting it.

When Deo meets Whit, she’s all sexy makeup and fierce, smart-ass fun. It doesn’t take him long to see past her tough shell. And when he gets a good look at what's under all the superficial stuff that usually gets his attention, it leaves Deo wondering if there might be more to life than living fast and free.

Too bad Whit has a past she doesn't plan on sharing—no matter how hot Deo is. She might want him, but she knows better than to let her guard down.

Deo falls for Whit, and falls hard. But everything about her, down to that mysterious tattoo and the way she thrashes in her sleep, tells him that the girl he loves is hiding something. And the more he pushes for answers, the more Whit pulls away.

Having your guard up is one thing, but are the lengths Whit goes to to protect her secret worth throwing away the second chance she has at happiness with Deo?

Second - The Swoon:

Swoon 1
I squeeze her around the hips and she tugs me closer and kisses me, her eyes closed. I know because mine are wide open. "I. Want. You. Now." She takes a deep breath. "Please."

Swoon 2
Suddenly, her lips are hot and sweet on mine. "You. You, Deo. I love you." She crawls onto my lap, her body pressed hot and eager against mine, her hands running from my shoulder blades down my back.
The words out of her mouth, her kisses, her body grinding hot and sweet and frantic against mine, all make my brain gun it and then stall. I pull back and her mouth runs along my jaw in wet, sloppy-sweet kisses that roam to my neck and leave me hard.
My fingers run back into her hair. "You love me?"
"You," she repeats.

I must say, this book was very fast paced. Nothing seemed to happen in slow motion, and at times, I felt a little left behind. But... having said that, it was still a great read and one I would recommend to those of you who like contemporary romance.

My Rating: 4 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday # 46 ~ Menagerie (Menagerie #1) by Rachel Vincent

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Menagerie
(Menagerie #1)
by
Rachel Vincent

Expected publication: September 29th 2015 by MIRA

When Delilah Marlow visits a famous traveling carnival, Metzger's Menagerie, she is an ordinary woman in a not-quite-ordinary world. But under the macabre circus black-top, she discovers a fierce, sharp-clawed creature lurking just beneath her human veneer. Captured and put on exhibition, Delilah in her black swan burlesque costume is stripped of her worldly possessions, including her own name, as she's forced to "perform" in town after town.

But there is breathtaking beauty behind the seamy and grotesque reality of the carnival. Gallagher, her handler, is as kind as he is cryptic and strong. The other "attractions"—mermaids, minotaurs, gryphons and kelpies—are strange, yes, but they share a bond forged by the brutal realities of captivity. And as Delilah struggles for her freedom, and for her fellow menagerie, she'll discover a strength and a purpose she never knew existed.

Renowned author Rachel Vincent weaves an intoxicating blend of carnival magic and startling humanity in this intricately woven and powerful tale.

I've seen Menagerie posted a few times. I love Rachel's writing, so yeah, I'm waiting on this one too.

TBR Tuesday # 108 ~ Wanted By You (Love in the City #1) by Steph Nuss

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Wanted By You
(Love in the City #1)
by
Steph Nuss

Carter was captivated by Ellyson Evans the moment he laid eyes on her, but she was the one girl who didn't beg for his attention.

He wanted her.

Ellyson vowed to never fall in love, because love can destroy you, but then she met Carter Jennings.

She wanted him.

Unwilling to risk their comfortable friendship, neither confessed their desires.

Losing touch after college, a chance meeting reconnects them.

They want each other.

But love in the city is never quite that easy.

Burn, Rewrite, or Re-Read Tag!

Okay, so a few days ago Naomi from Nomi's Reading Palace tagged me in the Burn, Rewrite, or Re-Read Tag!

In truth, I didn't know what this was, but after a little research, I soon changed that.

So here are the rules (as I understand them):
There are three rounds. In each round, I must select three books. One to burn, one I would re-write, and one I want to re-read. Sounds easy, but is it?

Round One: NA Contemporary Reads

BURN: Heartbeat! Sorry, but I'm the kind of girl who loves HEA and this one didn't quite meet that criteria.
RE-WRITE: Wild Cards! Wild Cards was a sweet read but seemed to end a little suddenly.
RE-READ: Easy! I've already read this one several times over and will happily read it again.

Round Two: Paranormal Reads

BURN: Stone Solitude! I love the cover, but sorry, just couldn't get into the story.
RE-WRITE: Of Silver and Beasts! Although I enjoyed the book, I would've preferred a little more romance between the main two characters.
RE-READ: Relentless! I loved this book and can't wait for the release of the final installment - Rogue!

Round Three: A Mixed Bag

BURN: The Kissing Booth! What can I say, there were events in this book which just weren't believable.
RE-WRITE: Let Love In! I found the characters a little hard to connect with.
RE-READ: White Hot Kiss! I'm currently re-reading this one, so yeah, it had to be on the list.
