Stacking the Shelves #81 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

Okay, so this week, I added three books to my shelf. All from Amazon.

Kiro's Emily
(Rosemary Beach #10)
by Abbi Glines

The year is 1992, and no one on the rock music scene is hotter than Kiro Manning, the lead singer of Slacker Demon. With a multi-platinum record, total ownership of the Billboard charts, sold-out concerts, and sinful amounts of money, Kiro can have anything—and anyone—he wants.

So when a dark-haired, conservative beauty rebuffs him at a concert after-party, his first thought is, “Who the hell does she think she is?” His second thought: “How do I make her mine?” Kiro has always loved a good challenge, but not every girl wants to get involved with a rock god. Especially this girl.

He let her go that night, but he never forgot her. And when they met again, he vowed not to give up again so easily.

As the world worshipped Kiro, he came to worship the girl, who became everything he never knew he needed. The only girl he would ever love. His Emily.

Having met Kiro in earlier books of the Rosemary Beach series and developing a fondness for his character, I'm really looking forward to reading Kiro and Emily's story.

Extinguish
(Extinguish #1)
by J.M. Darhower

One… Two… Three… Four…

I Declare War

Serah always believed the world around her was perfect. As a Power, one of the warrior angels, she has spent her existence defending the innocent from evil. After tragedy strikes, tearing Serah's brother from her life, she's given the task of stopping the approaching apocalypse before it's too late.

Only one thing, though: she has to venture to Hell to do it.

Lucifer—or Luce, as he prefers to be called—has been biding his time in Hell, longing for revenge against those who oh-so-easily cast him into the pit. When the heavenly beauty shows up at his gate, he's just as captivated by her presence as she becomes of him. The attraction between them is palpable, and Serah's willpower slowly slips. How can this charming creature, this scarred Archangel, be the one annihilating the world she so loves?

As the war wages on, the world entwined in chaos, Serah starts questioning everything she ever knew. When the light and dark, hot and cold, finally collide, she has to make a choice—a choice that sets her world on fire, black and white exploding into colorful flames.

Serah has questions. She wants answers.
Luce just wants to play a game.

Reignite
(Extinguish #2)
by J.M. Darhower

The moment the short-lived apocalypse came to an end, life returned to normal. Mortals continued on with their oblivious existences while the earth healed and flowers again bloomed, the devastation instantly wiped away. It was as if it had never happened.

But it did.

Luce knows. He’s cursed to remember every moment, forced to live with everything he has done. Suddenly finding himself out of confinement, he’s faced with a decision: where to call “home”. Free will turns out not to be the freedom he expects when the only thing he wants doesn’t know he exists.

Serah woke up with no memory of where she came from or who she was before that moment. Struggling to adapt to the world as a mortal, she’s haunted by a set of bright blue eyes that always seem to be watching her. She can’t shake the feeling that he could be her salvation… if only she can remember him before it’s too late.

Lucifer didn’t fall from Grace alone. He’s not the only angel with a grudge, nor is he the only one fascinated by his beautiful mortal.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions...

My Swoon for this week comes from:

 Beyond Control
(Beyond Love #1)
by
Karice Bolton

First - The Blurb:

Gabby Sullivan learns in college that some things are impossible to control, and whenever life has spun out of control bad things seem to happen. She promises herself that she’ll stay a safe distance from the top three culprits:

Sex
Love
Relationships

But some things are beyond control…

Gabby handles her mom’s death and brother’s sudden abandonment just about as well as anyone could at the age of twelve. Left feeling alone, she finishes high school, developing a bit of a wild streak, and lives like there’s no tomorrow. That is until an illness stops her in her tracks. Learning to control life around her becomes her comfort. With a visible scar that reminds her and the world that she beat the odds, it’s impossible for her to put everything behind her, no matter how hard she tries.

Right out of college she begins working at her family’s company and buries herself in the safety of the corporate world. No extra time, no life, no relationships. It’s safe to say she might be a little demanding and overly ambitious, but she’s got everything under control, just how she likes it.

Jason’s been trying to piece his life together after a personal tragedy, only it’s not working. He’s thrown himself into his work, but he’s only becoming angrier. He’ll never forgive himself and doesn’t expect anyone else to either.

When the back of his vehicle is clipped by an obnoxious limo driver he can’t wait to let the driver have it until he hears Gabby’s voice coming from inside the sedan. There’s something soothing about it, something familiar.

The moment she sees him, she knows her life will never be the same. But she doesn’t know why. He’s everything she said she never wanted. He’s cocky, arrogant, and infuriating. With his dazzling amber eyes, dark hair and chiseled features she can hardly remember where she’s going, let alone where she’s been and maybe that’s a good thing. She begins to let him show her what life could be, if she really lived it.

Neither wants their past to define their future, but sometimes destiny has something else in store. It’s only as their love grows and secrets are revealed that they realize a devastating connection from their past might actually tear them apart.

Second - The Swoon(s):

His hands ran down my spine with the lightest touch, causing me to shudder. He pulled back, his eyes connecting with mine, before he began softly placing kisses along my jaw. My eyes closed as I felt his lips move gently along my flesh, lowering with each kiss. He pulled his lips away from my skin as my breath hitched with anticipation. His eyes were filled with the same desire I felt, and I recognized the need that was something different in him, his touch. He was aware of things as he traced along my body that no man had been aware of before.

His eyes darted over my shoulder and my heart sank. The ferry lines were moving. He ran his finger lightly over my bottom lip, leaving a tingling sensation in its wake.

"Timing is everything," he murmured, sitting back in his seat and turning the engine on.

"Isn't it though?" I said, still breathless from his touch.

And this was only a kiss.

Losing her mother at the age of twelve, abandoned by her brother (whom she adored) not long after, and left to be raised by a father who was more interested in his work than in his daughter, Gabby's life has not been easy. Add into the mix a serious illness at the age of nineteen and it's not hard to see why she keeps the world at a distance. That is, until she meets Jason.

Jason, tall, dark, handsome, and a little more than cocky, quickly attracts Gabby's attention. However, dealing with his own issues, their relationship is off to a rocky start. Fortunately though, as their story unfolds and secrets of the past are revealed, things smooth out and they help heal each other.

I quite enjoyed reading this book, but be warned, it does end on a cliffhanger.

My Rating: 4 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday #16 ~ When I'm Gone (Rosemary Beach #11) by Abbi Glines

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

When I'm Gone
(Rosemary Beach #11)
by
Abbi Glines

Expected publication: April 7th, 2015 by Simon and Schuster

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.

I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

Yep! Another Abbi Glines book.
What can I say. I'm a huge fan of her writing.

My Tease for this week comes from:

Wicked Games
(Games #1)
by
Jessica Clare

First - The Blurb:

Abby Lewis never pictured herself on the survival game show, Endurance Island. She’s just not the ‘survival’ type. But when her boss offers her a spot on the show and the opportunity of a lifetime, she packs her bags and heads to the tropics to be a contestant. Once in the game, though, it’s clear that Abby’s in over her head.

No one’s more competitive than sexy, delicious – and arrogant – Dean Woodall. Sure, he’s clever, strong, good at challenges, and has a body that makes her mouth water. He also hates Abby just as much as she hates him. That’s fine with her; she’ll just ignore the jerk.

But the rules of Endurance Island are working against them. Abby and Dean are teamed up – alone – on the beach. It’s either work together, or go home. Stuck with no one’s company but their own, they learn they might just make a good team after all.

And Abby learns that with just a little bit of kindling, the flames of hate can quickly turn to flames of passion…

This book features enemies, lovers, enemies who become lovers, and lots and lots of tropical heat…

Second - The Tease:

Heat rushed through me at the feel of his tongue, his hot mouth sucking on my skin. I forgot about the peanut butter that was his original goal and my body flushed, my mind skidding to a halt at the sight of his beautiful mouth over my skin, the feel of his tongue against my flesh.

Wow! I actually managed to keep my tease to two sentences this week. Yay me!

And I'm guessing that you're wondering where the peanut butter is. Sorry, so not going to tell you.

Okay, to the story. Wicked Games is fast paced and filled with a tonne of fun moments (and quite a few steamy ones too). The chemistry between Abby and Dean is electric, and although they seem to be at odds at first, they soon realize that there is a growing attraction between them which quickly blossoms into more.

The story itself reminded me of the reality TV game show... Survivor. Although I have only ever watched a few episodes, I could discern the similarities. But I didn't mind. It made for an enjoyable read.

My Rating: 4 out of 5
