Stacking the Shelves # 99 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

This week, I added the following books to my shelf.

From the Library:

Never Never
(Never Never #1)
by
Colleen Hoover

"How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul you've never met."

Charlize Wynwood and Silas Nash have been best friends since they could walk. They've been in love since the age of fourteen.
But as of this morning...they are complete strangers.
Their first kiss, their first fight, the moment they fell in love...every memory has vanished.

"I don't care what our real first kiss was," he says. "That's the one I want to remember."

Charlize and Silas must work together to uncover the truth about what happened to them and why. But the more they learn about the couple they used to be...the more they question why they were ever together to begin with.

"I want to remember what it feels like to love someone like that. And not just anyone. I want to know what it feels like to love Charlie."

Snow Like Ashes
(Snow Like Ashes #1)
by
Sara Raasch

A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Sara Raasch’s debut fantasy is a lightning-fast tale of loyalty, love, and finding one’s destiny.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Damaged Goods
(The Outsider Chronicles #2)
by
Nicole Williams

First - The Blurb:

When Liv Bennett said good-bye to her sinkhole of a hometown, she planned to leave that chapter of her life behind forever. But forever turned out to only be three years.

After her addict of a mother up and disappears, Liv returns to what she considers her own personal hell smack in the middle of nowhere Nevada to take care of her two younger sisters, and she promptly reinstitutes the golden rule that got her through her first nineteen years of life without getting knocked up, roughed up, or messed up: don’t date the local boys and, god forbid, don’t fall in love with one of them.

It isn’t long before that golden rule is put to the test.

Will Goods grew up in the next trailer over, but the wild, careless boy who used to tear up the town with his three brothers has morphed into someone else so completely, he’s almost unrecognizable. The quiet, contemplative man who works on cars every night and takes care of his mentally ill mother every day is nothing like the local boys Liv grew up avoiding.

But when Liv considers suspending her golden rule just this once, she finds out something about Will that will change everything.

Will Goods isn’t who he used to be—he’s not even the man Liv thinks she’s gotten to know over the summer. He’s become someone else entirely.

He’s become . . .

Damaged Goods.

Second - The Swoon:

As I watched those words slip from his mouth, I remembered how his mouth had felt against mine.  Remembering that made me glance at his hands, which made me remember how they'd touched me.  Remembering the way they'd touched me had me remembering the way his touch had made me feel, and that was all the reminder I needed to remember...

Damaged Goods, although the second book in The Outsider Chronicles, is a stand-a-lone novel. As with Hard Knox, I was immediately sucked into the story. Liv is an amazing character. She has a huge kind heart, and when it comes to her two half sisters, there is pretty much nothing she won't do for them. The sacrifices she makes and the strength she shows as she tries to keep her little family safe and free from harm it truly amazing.

Will used to be a wild child. Then he went away to join the military, and when he came back,  he was a different man. Taking care of his mentally ill mother by day and working on cars at night, he keeps pretty much to himself, that is, until he meets Liv.

Both struggling to cope with life a dealt to them, Liv and Will form a friendship which quickly develops into something more. I liked the chemistry between these two characters and I enjoyed watching their story unfold. Another great book by Nicole.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday #35 ~ Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Dangerous Lies
by
Becca Fitzpatrick

Expected publication: November 10th, 2015 by Simon & Schuster

A teen is forced to make a fresh start after witnessing a violent crime—but love and danger find her anyway in this novel from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.

Stella Gordon is not her real name. Thunder Basin, Nebraska, is not her real home. This is not her real life.

After witnessing a lethal crime, Stella Gordon is sent to the middle of nowhere for her own safety before she testifies against the man she saw kill her mother’s drug dealer.

But Stella was about to start her senior year with the boyfriend she loves. How can she be pulled away from the only life she knows and expected to start a new one in Nebraska? Stella chafes at her protection and is rude to everyone she meets. She’s not planning on staying long, so why be friendly? Then she meets Chet Falconer and it becomes harder to keep her guard up, even as her guilt about having to lie to him grows.

As Stella starts to feel safer, the real threat to her life increases—because her enemies are actually closer than she thinks…

My Tease for this week comes from:

Hard Knox
(The Outsider Chronicles #1)
by
Nicole Williams

First - The Blurb:

Knox Jagger. The name inspires resentment in every male at Sinclair University, want in every female, and contempt in Charlie Chase.

Charlie can be summed up in three words: independent, independent, and independent. To Charlie, Knox epitomizes everything that’s wrong with college males: prolific one-night stands, drunken senseless fights, and a body that hints at prioritizing gym time over study time.

As an up-and-coming writer for Sinclair University’s newspaper, Charlie’s tasked with getting to the bottom of who’s been dropping little white pills into girls’ drinks at parties. In an ocean of All-American boys sporting polo shirts and innocent smiles, Knox is the obvious suspect. As evidence piles up against the bad boy of Sinclair, Charlie becomes more and more certain it isn’t Knox. But when her drink is dosed at a party and she wakes up on Knox’s couch the next morning, Charlie’s left with more questions than answers when it comes to Knox Jagger.

How can Charlie ever hope to uncover the truth behind a guy so closed off he’s become . . .

Hard Knox.

***Hard Knox is the first book in The Outsider Chronicles, although each book that follows will highlight different couples and can be read as a stand alone.***

Second - The Tease:

"Because I don’t want to give you any reason to be mad at me. I don’t want to give you a reason to hate me because, as much as I might have have begged you to do that, you’re the single most important thing in the world to me, Charlie Chase. You've become my world. And how do I live in a world where you don’t exist?"
...Knox

I had this one for a while. Not sure why it took me so long to read it. In true Nicole Williams style, it was awesome.

Charlie is everything I like in a heroine. She is vivacious, strong, fiercely independent and not afraid to face danger head on. Sure, she's a little reckless at times, but that's part of what makes the story great.

Knox is depicted as the Bad boy, but is he really the Bad boy? Right from the start, I found him to be a bit of an enigma. Seeming to be surrounded by an aura of mystery, I had a hard time figuring him out. But eventually,I did.

Charlie and Knox seem like chalk and cheese initially, but the fiery chemistry between them soon becomes apparent. I've read a lot of Collage Romance books of late and this one is up there with the best.

My Rating: 5 out of  5
