Stacking the Shelves #98 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

This week, I added the following books to my shelf.

Unbreakable
(Forehead Kisses #1)
by
Abby Reynolds

Can there be too many pieces to piece back together?

This is a question Keira faces every day. It’s impossible for her to go anywhere unaccompanied by her cousin, the only person who knows what happened on that horrific night a year ago. The guilt and pain weigh her down every day. Unwilling to open up to anyone and give someone a chance, she lives in solitude.

For her, that’s the only way to live.

Liam struggles with his own demons. After losing someone who means the world to him, he combats his anger and pain on a daily basis. He dives into violence and sex, losing himself more and more. But as soon as he meets Keira, he recognizes the same pain he suffers every day. And he pursues her, wanting to connect to someone who understands.

Keira can’t put herself back together, and neither can Liam. But can they do it together?

This is a stand alone novel. It is not a cliffhanger. And it is the first novel in the Forehead Kisses Series.

And something I received for Mother's Day

A Court of Thorns and Roses
(A Court of Thorns and Roses #1)
by Sarah J. Maas

Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price.

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Swoon Thursday # 138 ~ Confess by Colleen Hoover

Here's how it works. From the book you're currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Confess
by
Colleen Hoover

First - The Blurb:

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

Second - The Swoon(s):

Swoon 1

Two days
That won't be enough for me, Auburn. I can already tell. And whoever's favorite color is blue won't stand a chance in this tent, because I'm about to make sure that the only thing she ever thinks about when she sees a tent again is Oh My God.
... Owen

~ ~ ~

Swoon 2

"No one deserves you like I do."
"No one sees you like I do."
"No one understand you the way I do."
"No one makes your heart beat like I do."
He presses his palm against my heart. "And no one else deserves to be inside you if they can’t get there through here first."

~ ~ ~

Swoon 3

He kisses me like he's giving me every kiss he wishes he could have given me in the past, and every kiss he'll wish he could give me in the future.
All at once.
... Auburn

OMG is right. Colleen Hoover has done it again. This book is awesome and I hated that it ended.

Auburn broke my heart. Losing her first love and then treated so poorly by his family was totally cruel. But like with every cloud, there was a silver lining. And for Auburn, it came in the form of Owen.

Owen initially appears a little messed up because of what he's endured in his past, but it turns out he's not what you first imagine him to be. Under the blase attitude, he's a real softie and he cares for Auburn deeply.

I really like the way Colleen develops her stories and incorporates realism into her books. In my favorite - Maybe Someday - she provided us with the physical songs. In Confess, she included the Artwork. I can't wait to see what she does in November 9 (due for release November this year).

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday # 34 ~ Rogue (Relentless #3) by Karen Lynch

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Rogue
(Relentless #3)
by
Karen Lynch

Expected publication: October 2015

The blurb for this book does not seem to exist yet but here are a few snippets which I obtained from Karen's website to help entice you.

“We have to get out of here.”
“What? Why?”
“Nikolas is here.”
She scanned the parking lot as she chased me to the car. “I don’t see him.”
“You know that bond thing? He’s here, trust me.”

 * * *

“I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Nikolas when he realizes you gave him the slip. He’s going to lose it. I’m telling you now, if he catches up with us, I’m using you for a shield. He’ll be too focused on you to start raging at me.”
“Wow, what a friend.”
“I happen to have a strong survival instinct.”

 * * *

“Nikolas has been as surly as that wyvern of yours since you left, and it doesn't take much to set him off. Do you know what it’s like being around him when he’s like this?”
“Sorry.”
Chris groaned. “No, you’re not. If you were truly sorry you would tell me where you are right now and save me from this torture.”

I'm really excited to read this final installment to the Relentless series.

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)

My Tease for this week comes from:

 Tucker
(The Family Simon #1)
by
Juliana Stone

First - The Blurb:

When all hope is gone, can love still find a way?

Tucker Simon has given up on love. After a tragedy, it’s just not in the cards for him, and he wishes his family would get off his back. He’s fine—or at least he thought he was–until a family wedding forces him to address a few things, namely his date, Abby Mathews. She’s been put in the ‘friend’ category, mostly because she deserves so much more than what he can give. But the more time that he spends with her, Tucker begins to think that maybe there is a chance for love after all…

Abby Mathews has been in love with Tucker Simon since he walked into her family’s bar nearly a year ago. But he’s got baggage and heartache a plenty. His one-night-stands aren't going to lessen that no matter what he thinks. Tucker needs a friend, but Abby wants to give him more, and as they navigate their way through a weekend in Florida, their attraction can’t be ignored. Abby has to make a choice. Does she cherish their friendship and take what she can get? Or does she go after what she really wants, which is Tucker’s heart…

Second - The Tease:

He placed both of his hands on either side of her and before she could say a word, he silenced her with his mouth.
Tucker Simon kissed Abby Mathews long and he kissed her hard. He kissed her as if she was the air he breathed or the life in his veins. He inhaled her. He devoured her. And when he finally dragged his mouth away, both of them were panting.

Although this book was enjoyable, it didn't quite make it to my favorites list.
Abby is nice but a little too easy when it comes to giving in to Tucker. Tucker is kind of messed up, which is understandable considering what he's been through. The story is mostly about the two of them trying to sort out their feelings for each other as Tucker slowly learns to let go of the past and discovers that love can happen more than once in  a lifetime.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5

TBR Tuesday # 96 ~ Love's Prey by Meg Xuemei X

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Love's Prey
by
Meg Xuemei X

Xirena’s life has never been an easy one. Deemed a thief, a brute, and a slut by one's own family and schoolmates might take its toll on your average fifteen-year-old, but Xirena makes no apologies. Then she meets seventeen-year-old Kai, smoking hot and hell-bent on seducing her. But Xirena isn’t having it. Kai must prove to Xirena that his attraction is something more. When he does, Xirena opens to him. Softens around the edges.

Problem is, Kai’s ex-girlfriends are none too happy about this. They won’t allow anyone, especially an outcast, to have the boy they want and will stop at nothing to ruin Xirena. But Xirena stands her ground even if it means wrecking her one and only chance of escaping these backwoods forever.
