Nowhere But Here
(Thunder Road #1)
by
Katie McGarry

An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Where She Went
(If I Stay #2)
by
Gayle Forman

First - The Blurb:

The stunning sequel to Gayle Forman's international best seller, If I Stay - Now a major film starring Chloe Grace Moretz. If you had a second chance at first love ...would you take it? It's been three years since Adam's love saved Mia after the accident that annihilated life as she knew it ...and three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever. Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other. Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, powerful prose that defined If I Stay, Where She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.

Second - The Swoon:

"Is this real. Am I allowed to hold this hand?" I ask, bringing it up to my stubbly cheek.

Mia's smile is melting chocolate. It's a kick-ass guitar solo. It's everything good in this world. "Mmmm," she answers.

I pull her to me. A thousand suns rise from my chest. "Am I allowed to do this?" I ask, taking both of her arms in mine and slow-dancing her around the yard.

Her entire face is smiling now. "You're allowed," she murmurs.

This was a very moving scene, and just in case you are wondering, it did end in a kiss. A sweet, beautiful kiss.

Where She Went is told from Adam's POV three years into the future from where If I Stay ended. I'm glad that Gayle continued the story and gave us an insight into Adam's feelings and how he coped with the events which occurred after Mia's accident. (Some of which were quite heartbreaking). I'm also glad that Gayle retold parts of the past. How Mia and Adam met. How easily he was accepted into her family. Their first kiss. Seeing those moments through Adam's eyes was a great way of completing the picture.

I recommend that if you haven't read either book, you read them back to back. You will truly be moved.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

My Tease for this week comes from:

If I Stay
(If I Stay #1)
by
Gayle Forman

First - The Blurb:

'Just listen,' Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.' I open my eyes wide now. I sit up as much as I can. And I listen.

'Stay,' he says.

Everybody has to make choices.
Some might break you.

For seventeen-year-old Mia, surrounded by a wonderful family, friends and a gorgeous boyfriend decisions might seem tough, but they're all about a future full of music and love, a future that's brimming with hope.
But life can change in an instant.
A cold February morning . . . a snowy road . . . and suddenly all of Mia's choices are gone. Except one.
As alone as she'll ever be, Mia must make the most difficult choice of all.
Haunting, heartrending and ultimately life-affirming, If I Stay will make you appreciate all that you have, all that you've lost - and all that might be.

Includes interviews with the stars of the film, Chloe Moretz and Jamie Blackley.

Second - The Tease:

"It's okay," he tells me. "If you want to go. Everyone wants you to stay. I want you to stay more than I've ever wanted anything in my life." His voice cracks with emotion. He stops, clears his throat, takes a breath, and continues. "But that's what I want and I could see why it might not be what you want. So I just wanted to tell you that I understand if you go. It's okay if you have to leave us. It's okay if you want to stop fighting."
...Gramps

"If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay."
...Adam

I do not know why it took me so long to read this book. For over a year, it sat on my shelf waiting to be read. And now, I finally have. For those of you who have read it long before I did, you will already know what a touching and highly emotional read If I Stay is. Many of you may have also seen the movie (which is next on my to-do-list).

For those of you who haven't read the book or seen the movie, then my recommendation is... please do.

Mia's story is heartbreaking, and understanding the reason why Gayle wrote it (this is explained in a small section at the end) made it even more so. A short read (200 pages) well worth your time.

My Rating: 5 out of 5
