First - The Blurb:
Callie has grown up keeping her feelings locked away from the outside world, and as her painful past threatens to consume her life, most days it's a struggle just to breathe.
For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence has been the only way to survive, until one night when Callie and Kayden's worlds collide.
After that moment, Kayden can't stop thinking about Callie and when they end up at the same college, he does everything in his power to convince her that it isn't coincidence - it's fate.
Second - The Swoon:
He leans in, shutting his eyes, and for a second I contemplate running. I keep my eyes open until the very last second, and then suck in a breath as his lips touch mine. My knees buckle as his tongue delves deep inside my mouth and I clutch on to the net to keep from falling down.
Without question or hesitation, I untangle my fingers from the holes, and slide my hands up his chest, wrapping then around his neck. His hot breath is mixed with passion and tequila and his chest crushes against mine. A gasp escapes from my lips as his searing hot palms move down my back. He thrusts his tongue deeper into my mouth and grabs at my hips, drawing me closer as the floor sways under our feet.
It's my first real kiss; one that wasn't taken away from me and held inside someone else's hand. I thought I'd be more terrified, but if anything the nerves flying through my body are driven by the thrill of his tongue inside my mouth.
Third - My Thoughts:
After reading several extremely positive reviews of this book, I felt compelled to read it myself. I wasn't disappointed. It's an amazing story of two people (both of who have suffered traumatic lives) coming together, and through a deep and overwhelming connection, begin to help heal each other.
Callie is a sad and lonely girl, who after having been severely traumatized at the age of 12, has spent most of her teenage years trying to blend into the shadows. Kayden seems alright on the outside, but on the inside, there is a lot of darkness. Although the two of them were raised in the same town and attended the same school, neither of them approaches the other until they start college.
Finally free from the surroundings which have held them captive, they find each other. As their friendship blossoms, their secrets are slowly revealed. There are a lot of strong emotions expressed throughout the story, some of which will make you smile, and some of which will make you cry.
And the ending - not quite what I was expecting, and definitely leaving me wanting more. Can't wait to read The Redemption of Callie and Kayden (Book #2)
My Rating: 5 out of 5
