Book Boyfriend of the Week # 8 Kale from Touch by Jus Accardo

This is a meme created by Reading and Things for bloggers to talk about there book boyfriends and tease the readers with things they've said.

Want to participate?

Then all you have to do is:

1) Pick a book boyfriend, it can be from the book your currently reading or from one you've already read.
2) Write what kind of boyfriend he is, and if you want, say why you think that.
3) Pick a quote from his book, long or short, that proves he is the kind of boyfriend you said he is.
4) Make sure the quote, and the explanation DO NOT give away anything from the book (we want all of the twists and plot surprises to remain surprises).
5) Share it! And shout it out using the #Reading and Things.

My Book Boyfriend for this week is:

Kale

Kale is sweet, cute and totally out of touch with this world. Meeting Dez changes his life... and hers.

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
A secret Kale will kill to protect.

How Kale feels about Dez:

"If I had the ability to touch anyone else in this world, I still don't believe I'd want it to be anyone but you."

"I love you," he said. "Just you. Only you. Always you."

How Dez feels about Kale:

I backed us up against the wall. "How I feel? You want to know?" I ran my hands over his face and tangled them into his messy hair. "This is unlike anything else. I've bungeed off buildings, I've skateboarded off roofs. I've even gone train surfing. Nothing comes close to the high I feel when I'm with you. You've been through horrible things, and yet you're one of the kindest, truest people I've ever met. At first I thought it was because you were safe. I could feel something for you because you couldn't hurt me. Not the way Alex did. But it's more than that. It's you. Who you are. The way you are. Everything from your smile to the way you always say exactly what's on your mind. Your soul, Kale."

This weeks question:

What were some of your favorite picture books as a kid?
If you have kids, what are your favorites to read to them?

One of my favorite picture books which I have shared with my kids is:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
by
Eric Carle

I love the way he eats his way through piles of food and then morphs into a beautiful Butterfly at the end.
When I read this book to my kids, I use my finger to animate the caterpillar. I even draw a face. They love it.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Touch
(Denazen #1)

by
Jus Accardo

First - The Blurb:

A secret Kale will kill to protec
t
.

Second - The Swoon:

I brushed the lightest of kisses on his left cheek.

He sat up straight, eyes wide, and touched the tip of his index finger to his cheek. "What was that?"

I blushed. "A kiss."

"That's what a kiss feels like?"

"Well, technically. There are a lot of different types of..."

"Show me."

"Show you what?"

"Show me some of the other kinds."

"You're asking me to kiss you?"

He nodded, hands curled over the edge of the bed. "Is that not right?"

Third - My Thoughts:

I really liked Kale. He is so sweet and innocent as this scene shows. Unfortunately though, he has a deadly touch. Locked up for most of his life in a facility not known to the public, he has little knowledge of the outside world. Finally managing to escape those who have held him captive, he runs into Dez (Deznee) - literally.

Dez is a girl with attitude. She's feisty and a little on the crazy side. On meeting Kale she is immediately intrigued by his odd behavior. As she starts to learn more about him, she discovers things about her own life she had no knowledge of. Her mother is not dead. Her father is not a lawyer. And she herself is far from normal.

I really enjoyed this book. There are several swoon worthy moments, loads of action and a great ending. I'm looking forward to reading Toxic (Book 2) and Tremble (Book 3)

My Rating: 5 out of 5

My Tease for this week comes from:

The Collector

by

Victoria Scott

First - The Blurb:

He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.

Second - The Tease:

"I love you, Charlie," I say. "I f****** love you so much."

A gasp escapes her throat as I race toward her. I tug her against me and smash my mouth over hers. I feel everything - her hair between my fingers, her skin pressing against mine. And her lips. I feel those soft pink lips freeze for a moment beneath my kiss. And then I feel her relax, opening her mouth and mirroring my movements. She leans into me, twinning her arms around my neck, pulling me so there's nothing between us.

I grab her thighs and hoist her up, and she wraps her legs around me. Fumbling toward a tree, I press her back against it and push toward her, my hips locking against hers. An animalistic groan escapes my throat as I kiss her harder, deeper. I trail my lips down her neck and along her collarbone, and Charlie softly moans. Then I bury my head against her chest and take in - her smell, her chest raising and falling. The wild thumping of her heart.

Third - My Thoughts:

I have to say that it took me a little while to get into this book. I didn't quite like the way Dante treated Charlie in the beginning.  But what can I say, he's the kind of guy that grows on you. Although he likes to appear like a complete bad-ass, turns out that there is a softer version of him underneath.

I liked Charlie right from the start. She is a likeable character with a kind heart. It is her kind heart and trusting soul which slowly draws out the softer less dark side of Dante.

The Collector is written from Dante's POV which was a nice change for me since most of my reads are written from the female POV.

My Rating: 4 out of 5

From The TBR Pile # 15 ~ Inbetween by Tara Fuller

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'From The TBR Pile'.

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Inbetween
(Kissed by Death #1)

by
Tara Fuller

Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.

I haven't actually managed to get a copy of this book yet but it has been on my TBR list for quite a while. Hopefully I will get around to reading it soon.

SO NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!
On your blog (and be sure to leave a link) tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
