Stacking the Shelves #83 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

This week, I added the following books to my shelf.

From the Library:

Sweet
(True Believers #2)
by Erin McCarthy

Jessica Sweet thought going away to college would finally free her from her parents’ constant judgments, but if anything, it’s made her realize she can’t go home and be a hypocrite anymore. Tired of dodging their questions, she stays at school over the summer and lands in an unexpected crash pad: Riley Mann’s house.

Sarcastic and cocky, Riley is also sexy personified with tattoos and biceps earned from working in construction all day. He seems like the completely wrong guy for Jessica, but Riley hides a sensitive side and a family burden behind his self-assured grin. As Jessica helps him get his house in order for a custody hearing, they begin to fall for each other, and she is forced to question what she’s hiding herself.

But when it comes down to showing Riley how she truly feels, Jessica’s fear of rejection may just ruin the best thing—the best guy—to ever happen to her…

I have been eager to read Sweet but it took up until now for it to become available at my local library.

Junk Miles

But being the perfect girlfriend isn't as easy as Brenna thought it would be, and the pressure that comes with trying to be Jake's everything is beginning to weigh on her. When her mother surprises her with a trip to Paris over winter break, she's torn. She anticipated spending her vacation snuggling with Jake Kelly, ice-skating, drinking cocoa, and relaxing...but what girl in her right mind would turn down a trip to Paris?

Things only get more confusing when she winds up unexpectedly and unavoidably thrown into Saxon Maclean's arms in the City of Lights. Far away from the comfort and stability she finds at Jake's side, Brenna faces down the feelings that have been swirling through her since the day she laid eyes on Saxon. Is it fair for her to call herself Jake's girlfriend when she has so many unresolved feelings about someone else?

Brenna is determined to figure it all out, even if it means making some of the hardest decisions of her entire life. She also learns that every single thing she does has rippling repercussions, some that fill her with total regret. And from Amazon:

My Swoon for this week comes from:

 Reignite
(Extinguish #2)
by J.M. Darhower

First - The Blurb:

The moment the short-lived apocalypse came to an end, life returned to normal. Mortals continued on with their oblivious existences while the earth healed and flowers again bloomed, the devastation instantly wiped away. It was as if it had never happened.

But it did.

Luce knows. He’s cursed to remember every moment, forced to live with everything he has done. Suddenly finding himself out of confinement, he’s faced with a decision: where to call “home”. Free will turns out not to be the freedom he expects when the only thing he wants doesn’t know he exists.

Serah woke up with no memory of where she came from or who she was before that moment. Struggling to adapt to the world as a mortal, she’s haunted by a set of bright blue eyes that always seem to be watching her. She can’t shake the feeling that he could be her salvation… if only she can remember him before it’s too late.

Lucifer didn’t fall from Grace alone. He’s not the only angel with a grudge, nor is he the only one fascinated by his beautiful mortal.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions...

Second - The Swoon:

Luce's nose brushed against hers before he tilted his head. Her heart raced frantically. His lips lightly touched hers, barely a kiss, a soft graze, but it ignited something inside of her, rekindling an extinguished flame.
He deepened the kiss, groaning into her mouth. She inhaled sharply, flashes of him assaulting her out of nowhere.

I loved the first book in this series, and although Reignite moves at a bit of a slower pace compared to Extinguish, it is just as captivating.

Serah is human now, and although he knows he should stay away and let her live in peace as a mortal, Luce / Lucifer cannot keep away.

Serah has no memory of her past, no memory of who she was before she woke in a hospital bed. However, haunted by a set of dark blue eyes and a stranger who always seems to be hovering somewhere in the shadows, she tries hard to remember, to decipher who the stranger is and why she feels drawn to him.

Extinguish was largely told from Serah's perspective. In contrast, Reignite is told more from Luce's. Being able to get inside his head and connect with his thoughts and emotions was enlightening, and once again, had me glued to the story.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday #18 ~ Sweet (Contours of the Heart #3) by Tammara Webber

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Sweet
(Contours of the Heart #3)
by Tammara Webber

Expected publication: April 27th, 2015

He’s the love of her life, but he doesn’t know it.
She’s his one moment of sacrifice in a lifetime of survival.

He was damaged and wild, but resilient.
She’s always been obedient. Now she’s restless.

Home for the summer between college and med school, Pearl Torres Frank knows two things: Boyce Wynn is the embodiment of everything she should run from, and everything she wants to run to. Rebellious and loud. Unconcerned with society’s opinion of him. Passionate. Strong. Dangerous.

And one more trait he hides from everyone but her:
Sweet.

I'm a huge fan of Tammara's writing, so yeah, of course I'm waiting on this one.

My Tease for this week comes from:

Extinguish
(Extinguish #1)
by J.M. Darhower

First - The Blurb:

One… Two… Three… Four…

I Declare War

Serah always believed the world around her was perfect. As a Power, one of the warrior angels, she has spent her existence defending the innocent from evil. After tragedy strikes, tearing Serah's brother from her life, she's given the task of stopping the approaching apocalypse before it's too late.

Only one thing, though: she has to venture to Hell to do it.

Lucifer—or Luce, as he prefers to be called—has been biding his time in Hell, longing for revenge against those who oh-so-easily cast him into the pit. When the heavenly beauty shows up at his gate, he's just as captivated by her presence as she becomes of him. The attraction between them is palpable, and Serah's willpower slowly slips. How can this charming creature, this scarred Archangel, be the one annihilating the world she so loves?

As the war wages on, the world entwined in chaos, Serah starts questioning everything she ever knew. When the light and dark, hot and cold, finally collide, she has to make a choice—a choice that sets her world on fire, black and white exploding into colorful flames.

Serah has questions. She wants answers.
Luce just wants to play a game.

Second - The Tease(rs):

Tease 1
Pressing his lips to hers, he kissed her softly, an innocent gesture for a creature they called 'The Devil'.
"I have to try," he murmured, "for you."

Tease 2
"Ah, the smell of lingering innocence and fresh cut grass," he said. "I'm not sure which is more of an aphrodisiac. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to turn me on - in which case, I'd say it's working."

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I like reading stories featuring Angels. So yeah, when I came across Extinguish, I just had to add it to my shelf. And I'm so glad that I did. J.M. Darhower has done an amazing job and I had a hard time putting this book down. So much so, that I actually read it in one afternoon.

Serah is a Power angel who has been sent down to hell to convince Lucifer (Satan) to end the war between good and evil and prevent the approaching  apocalypse. As you can guess, he isn't easy to convince. However, as an attraction begins to grow between them and black and white smudges to grey, Lucifer discovers that there are more important things than revenge.

I really enjoyed reading Extinguish, but I must warn you, it does end on a bit of a cliff hanger. Fortunately for me though, I have the sequel - Reignite - waiting in the wings.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

TBR Tuesday #80 ~ Tucker (The Family Simon #1) by Juliana Stone

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Tucker
(The Family Simon #1)
by Juliana Stone

When all hope is gone, can love still find a way?

Tucker Simon has given up on love. After a tragedy, it’s just not in the cards for him, and he wishes his family would get off his back. He’s fine—or at least he thought he was–until a family wedding forces him to address a few things, namely his date, Abby Mathews. She’s been put in the ‘friend’ category, mostly because she deserves so much more than what he can give. But the more time that he spends with her, Tucker begins to think that maybe there is a chance for love after all…

Abby Mathews has been in love with Tucker Simon since he walked into her family’s bar nearly a year ago. But he’s got baggage and heartache a plenty. His one-night-stands aren't going to lessen that no matter what he thinks. Tucker needs a friend, but Abby wants to give him more, and as they navigate their way through a weekend in Florida, their attraction can’t be ignored. Abby has to make a choice. Does she cherish their friendship and take what she can get? Or does she go after what she really wants, which is Tucker’s heart…

SO NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!

Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
