Stacking the Shelves #129

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

Books I added to my shelf this week (all from the library):

Something Beautiful
(Beautiful #3)
by
Jamie McGuire

America Mason, a sassy undergrad at Eastern State University, is in love with a Maddox--Shepley Maddox. Unlike his cousins, Shepley is more lover than fighter, but a road trip to her parents' home in Wichita, Kansas could mean the next step, or the end of everything.

I picked this one up on Monday and read it right away. Check out my swoon and thoughts HERE.

Beautiful Redemption
(The Maddox Brothers #2)
by
Jamie McGuire

If A Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever. But what if he didn't love you, first?

No-nonsense Liis Lindy is an agent of the FBI. Deciding she is married only to her job, she breaks off her engagement and transfers from Chicago to the field office in San Diego. She loves her desk. She is committed to her laptop. She dreams of promotions and shaking hands with the director after cracking an impossible case.

Special Agent in Charge Thomas Maddox is arrogant, unforgiving, and ruthless. He is tasked with putting away some of the world’s toughest criminals, and he is one of the best the Bureau has to offer. Though, as many lives as he’s saved, there is one that is beyond his reach. Younger brother Travis is faced with prison time for his involvement in a basement fire that killed dozens of college students, and the media want a conviction. Travis’s only savior is his unusual tie to the mob. In a deal that will spare his brother, Thomas has agreed to recruit Travis into the FBI.

Liis is stubborn, defiant, and yet somehow softens Thomas’s rough edges, making her the perfect agent to accompany him to the ceremony. Posing as a couple, they must travel to Travis & Abby’s beach vow renewal and give him the news, but when the pretending ends, she finds herself wondering if they were pretending at all.

In the second installment of the Maddox Brothers books, experience firsthand the mysterious world of the elusive Thomas Maddox, and how good love can be when you’re not the first, but the last.

Beautiful Sacrifice
(The Maddox Brothers #3)
by
Jamie McGuire

Falyn Fairchild can walk away from anything. Having already left her car, her education, and even her parents, the daughter of the next governor of Colorado is back in her hometown, broke and waiting tables for the Bucksaw Café. After every shift, Falyn adds to her shoebox of cash, hoping to one day save enough to buy her a plane ticket to the only place she can find forgiveness: Eakins, Illinois.

The moment Taylor Maddox is seated in Falyn’s section at the Bucksaw, she knows he’s trouble. Taylor is charming, breaks promises, and gorgeous even when covered in filth—making him everything Falyn believes a hotshot firefighter to be. Falyn isn’t interested in becoming another statistic, and for a Maddox boy, a disinterested girl is the ultimate challenge.

Once Falyn learns where Taylor calls home, everything changes. In the end, Maddox persistence is met with Falyn’s talent for leaving, and for the first time, Taylor may be the one to get burned.

Feature and Follow Friday #1

How does FF work? (A summarized version)
  • Grab the button above and create your own post using the post prompt.
  • Visit Parajunkee & Alison Can Read and put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing to link back to your post prompt. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  • Once you have your post up and linked, visit other posts and tell them "Hi". The point is to FOLLOW them not just comment.
  • The person with the most likes gets chosen as the next Feature (you can be chosen every 90 days unless we are in need of features)
  • It is required that if you participate that you have to follow the FEATURE. It is a big no-no to participate and ignore the feature. They are the special snowflake in this little blizzard.
  • State in your posts how you would like to be followed. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don’t just follow, comment. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don’t say “Hi”
  • If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love…and the followers.

This weeks question:

Why Did You Start Blogging?

I've been blogging for three and a half years now.
So why did I start?
To put it simply, because I wanted to get in touch with people who shared my passion for both reading and writing. I have always loved books. YA and NA Paranormal Romance and Contemporary are my favorite genres. Being able to communicate with others who share a similar obsession has proven to be both fulfilling and extremely rewarding. I have made many friends and discovered books I never knew existed.
Will I continue to blog?
Most definitely!

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Something Beautiful
(Beautiful #3)
by
Jamie McGuire

First - The Blurb:

America Mason, a sassy undergrad at Eastern State University, is in love with a Maddox--Shepley Maddox. Unlike his cousins, Shepley is more lover than fighter, but a road trip to her parents' home in Wichita, Kansas could mean the next step, or the end of everything.

Second - The Swoon:

For people who had struggled for every step forward, we didn’t have one regret, and we wouldn’t change a thing. Every wrong turn had led us to this moment, proving that every choice we’d made was right. We had cried and hurt and bled our way to happiness, the kind that couldn’t be stopped by fire or wind. However it had happened and whatever it was, we were something beautiful.

I first met America and Shepley in Beautiful Disaster - Abby and Travis's story. As secondary characters, their relationship was touched on but not given in too much detail.

Something Beautiful is a short and sweet read which tells us the complete story of how America and Shepley met. How their relationship developed. And eventually, how after a few bumps in the road, they finally find the happiness they deserve.

My rating: 4 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday # 73 ~ Soldier (Talon #3) by Julie Kagawa

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I'm waiting on:

Soldier
(Talon #3)
by
Julie Kagawa

Expected publication: May 1st 2016

A fighter dedicated to saving humankind from dragons in strictest secrecy.

That was what Garret Xavier Sebastian thought he was part of as a soldier of the Order of St. George. What he learned from a fiery dragon hatchling twisted all he believed in and set him on a collision course with certain death-but not without a chance to put things right.

Betrayed and on the run again, Ember and rogue dragon Riley discover an unthinkable truth about Talon and St. George. They'll need Garret's skills and insider knowledge of the Order to negotiate an impossible deal-and if they fail, there will be no way to stop all-out war.

After recently reading the first two books in this series, I'm excited for the release of  Soldier.

Rogue
(Talon #2)
by
Julie Kagawa

First - The Blurb:

Deserter.
Traitor.
ROGUE.

Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to join rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can't forget the sacrifice made for her by, Garret, the human soldier who saved her from a Talon assassin and doomed himself

Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the headquarters of mysterious drangonslayers the Order of St. George. With assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, a reckoning is brewing. The secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly.

Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day...or start an all-out war?

Second - The Tease:

"You're the dragon who chose not to kill a soldier of St. George when you had the chance," I went on in a softer voice. "You risked your life to break into a compound full of enemies who would slaughter you on sight, to rescue someone you should hate." Unbidden, my other hand rose, brushing a fiery strand of hair from her eyes, and she shivered. "I don't know what that makes you, exactly, but from where I'm standing, I'd say it's pretty amazing."

Her eyes gleamed, and a smile finally tugged at the corners of her mouth. "Okay, now I am worried," she murmured in a teasing voice. "Who is this smooth-talking, non-uptight normal person and what did you do with the real Garret?"

Defying Talon and fleeing into the night, Ember is now considered a traitor to her kind, a rogue. It wasn't her plan to run, but discovering that Talon wanted her to become an assassin, she didn't feel she had a choice to remain. Teamed up with Riley/Cobalt, she hides in the shadows until she discovers the fate of the human soldier who helped her gain her freedom... Garret.

Once labelled as the 'Perfect Soldier' of the Order of St. George, Garret is now also considered a traitor to his own kind, and his punishment... is death. Managing to convince Riley and his assistant Wes, to help her free Garret before it is too late, the four of them manage to flee to Vegas. As the dragons of Talon and the soldiers of St. George close in, it becomes a race to stay one step a head.

In Talon (book #1), Ember's human side formed a bond with Garret, while her dragon side developed an attraction to Riley/Cobalt. Now constantly in the presence of both of them, her attachment to each of them has grown, and she is faced with another decision... who will she choose?

I could see the love triangle forming early in the story, and although it would be more logical for Ember to pair up with Riley/Cobalt, I kind of want her to be with Garret. Overall though, both guys are great.

An explosive continuation. I'm looking forward to the release of Soldier (book #3)

My rating: 5 out of 5

TBR Tuesday #135 ~ Soar (The Empire Chronicles #1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Soar
(The Empire Chronicles #1)
by
Alyssa Rose Ivy

In the city that never sleeps the Chronicles continue…

Serving coffee is temporary, just like Casey's year off from school. She’s going to come up with a plan to stay in New York City and go back to college, and that plan does not involve dating a paranormal creature—let alone two.

Running the supernatural society of New York is not as fun as it sounds, especially when you still have to answer to your ex-girlfriend’s fiancĂ©. Toby doesn’t mean to bring Casey into the chaos of his life, but he can't resist the girl who makes him smile when he thought no one else ever could.

Jared's in New York checking out a security risk for his best friend, the king. He plans to return to New Orleans quickly, but not if it means losing his chance with the brunette who pretends she wants nothing to do with him.

In over her head with a bunch of winged creatures who most definitely are not angels, Casey has to figure out who to trust with her life and maybe her heart.

I picked this one up a while back with every intention of reading it almost immediately. Then I got distracted with other books, and so... it's still sitting on my shelf waiting to be read.

So now it's your turn.
Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
