My Swoon for this week comes from:

City of Heavenly Fire
(The Mortal Instruments #6)

by
Cassandra Clare

First - The Blurb:

In this dazzling and long-awaited conclusion to the acclaimed Mortal Instruments series, Clary and her friends fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary's own brother.

Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures out of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell.

The embattled Shadowhunters withdraw to Idris - but not even the famed demon towers of Alicante can keep Sebastian at bay. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons?

When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, and Alec must flee - even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot before, and from which no human being has ever returned...

Love will be sacrificed and lives lost in the terrible battle for the fate of the word in the thrilling final installment of the classic urban fantasy series The Mortal Instruments!

Second - The Swoon:

"You must love me," she said, breath hitching as his lips traveled excruciatingly slowly along her jaw. "I never thought you'd admit anyone was prettier than you." She started as his mouth found her own, his lips parting to taste hers, and she leaned up and into the kiss, determined to take back some control. She wound her arms around his neck, opening her mouth to him, and nipped gently at his bottom lip.

It had more of an effect than she bargained for; his hands tightened on her waist and he groaned low into her mouth. A moment later he'd broken away, flushed, his eyes glittering. "You're all right?" he said. "You want this?"

She nodded, swallowing. Her whole body felt as if it were vibrating like a plucked string. "Yes, I do."

Third - My Thoughts:

I read City of Heavenly Fire for my August Jumble Your Genre Reading Challenge. You can read my thoughts here.

Teaser Tuesday #106 ~ Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Tease for this week comes from:

Maybe Someday

by
Colleen Hoover

First - The Blurb:

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

Second - The Tease:

My lips softly close over hers, and then I part them, and we do it all over again, but with less hesitation and more desperation. Her hands are now running down my back, and my hand is slipping to her waist, and my tongue is exploring the incredible way hers dances against mine to a song only our mouths can hear. The desperation and speed at which we're escalating this kiss make it apparent that we're both attempting to get as much out of each other as we can before the moment ends.

Because we both know it has to end.

Third - My Thoughts:

OMG! I don't even know where to begin. I absolutely adored this book. Not just because the story sucked me in and kept me captivated from beginning to end, but also because it provided me with a very unique reading experience. For those of you who have read it, you will probably know what I'm talking about. For those of you who haven't, let me explain...

As you can see from the blurb above, the story is about Sydney - an aspiring musician, and Ridge, a guitar playing song writer. While suffering from a broken heart, Sydney becomes captivated by her neighbor (Ridge) who in turn becomes captivated by her. Forming a friendship and discovering that they have a common interest - music - they begin to work together writing songs. And as you can guess, working so closely together, they develop feelings for each other.

So, what makes this story so different from the rest?
The fact that you can actually listen to the songs as Sydney and Ridge create them.

In writing this novel, Colleen Hoover teamed up with Griffin Peterson and made the songs real. Being able to physically listen to them as they are created and appear in the book is an amazingly emotional experience, one not to be missed.

My Rating: 5 out of 5
