My Swoon for this week comes from:

After Math
(Off the Subject #1)

by
Denise Grover Swank

First - The Blurb:

Scarlett Goodwin’s world is divided into Before and After.

Before she agreed to tutor Tucker Price, college junior Scarlett was introvert, struggling with her social anxiety and determined to not end up living in a trailer park like her mother and her younger sister. A mathematics major, she goes to her classes, to her job in the tutoring lab, and then hides in the apartment she shares with her friend, Caroline.

After junior Tucker Price, Southern University’s star soccer player enters the equation, her carefully plotted life is thrown off its axis. Tucker’s failing his required College Algebra class. With his eligibility is at risk, the university chancellor dangles an expensive piece of computer software for the math department if Scarlett agrees to privately tutor him.Tucker’s bad boy, womanizer reputation makes Scarlett wary of any contact, let alone spending several hours a week in close proximity.

But from her first encounter, she realizes Tucker isn’t the person everyone else sees. He carries a mountain of secrets which she suspects hold the reason to his self-destructive behavior. But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos. Will Scarlett find the happiness she’s looking for, or will she be caught in Tucker’s aftermath?

Second - The Swoon(s):

Swoon 1

“Everything just feels so right when I'm with you, Scarlett. I can be me. But it's more than that. You give me something I haven't had in a long time, if ever. You give me peace. It's like the jumbled mess in my head can settle down, and I can be still with you. Like none of the other stuff matters." His voice catches, and he swallows. "I had a bad day and usually I'd get shitfaced drunk, but the only thing I could think of was I had to see you.”
... Tucker

Swoon 2

"Scarlett, I don't want to lose you by f***ing up our friendship. I want you in my life, and if we do this, I will lose you. If that means showing some self-restraint for once in my goddamn life, then I will." Both his hands cup my cheeks. "You make me want to be a better person. This is me being a better person.”
...Tucker

Scarlett has spent much of her life trying to go unnoticed. Then one day, instructed to tutor Southern University's star soccer player, she finds herself in a position where she is forced to leave her comfort zone.

Tucker has a reputation for breaking hearts. Aware of his reputation, Scarlett doesn't want to become another notch on his belt. However, keeping her distance from him emotionally isn't as easy as she hopes.

As they spend more and more time together, they begin to see things in each other that no one else sees. Discovering that they have both come from pasts which have left them broken and distrustful, they slowly begin to help heal each other.

I quite enjoyed reading Scarlett and Tucker's story. It's well written and flows easily. Only downside is that it finished a little abruptly.

My Rating 4 out if 5

Teaser Tuesday #107 ~ Every Little Piece (Second Chances #1) by Kate Ashton

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Tease for this week comes from:

Every Little Piece
(Second Chances #1)

by
Kate Ashton

First - The Blurb:

Secrets never stay in the past. The night before high school graduation changes everything. Lies are told. Mistakes are made. Secrets tucked away. Lives are changed in the span of a few hours. A year later, Haley is still reeling, numb with the constant ache of guilt. She's in a place she never expected to be: lost without her friends and Seth. Until he enters her life again, dredging up everything she's trying to forget. Everything about that night. Seth returns to his hometown determined to share his truth, his side of the story. He desperately needs to make things right with Haley, even if it means losing her forever. Because the truth will ruin any chance of her ever loving him again. Except neither of them are prepared for the shock of what really happened the night before graduation.

Second - The Tease:

Shivers ripple across my arms and through my body. Her damp hair fell down around me and her exposed breasts skimmed my chest. She played the tease, hovering just above me but not touching or kissing.

I groaned. Not that I didn't ask for this.

"I love it when you're at my mercy," she said, lowering and skinning her lips across mine.

Her touch, her feel, everything about her was pure sweetness. I wanted to lose myself in her for a few minutes and forget my pathetic life.

Haley and Seth have been in a happy relationship for several years, and then one night, it all comes crashing down. Believing that he is the cause of the tragedy which struck, Seth  opts to leave town. It's only when he returns a year later that the real truth finally comes out.

Every Little Piece is an intensely emotional read as both Haley and Seth come to terms with the truth of what really happened on the night before their graduation and slowly begin to find their way back to each other.

“It wasn't your fault. You were just the one who survived. For whatever reason, you lived. So live your life, Haley. Live it for them. Live it fully. Go find love and do what you do with all your heart. Never take this life for granted. It’s what they would want.”

TBR Tuesday #62 ~ Take Me On by Katie McGarry

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Take Me On
(Pushing the Limits #4)

by
Katie McGarry

Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

I bought this book a few months back. My copy has the cover on the right but I like the cover on the left more so I'm giving you both.
As soon as I clear all the library books I currently have on loan, I'll be reading this baby next.

SO NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!

Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
