Stacking the Shelves #119

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

Books I added to my shelf this week:

Bought:

Ten Thousand Skies Above You
(Firebird #2)
by
Claudia Gray

Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross into alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse—even hurting the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked and his consciousness scattered across multiple dimensions.

Marguerite has no choice but to search for each splinter of Paul’s soul. The hunt sends her racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each world brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with each trial she faces, she begins to question the destiny she thought they shared.

The second book in the Firebird trilogy, Ten Thousand Skies Above You features Claudia Gray’s lush, romantic language and smart, exciting action, and will have readers clamoring for the next book.

I've had the first in this series sitting on my shelf for a while.
Now that I have the second, I'm a little more motivated to bump them both up my TBR list.

Third Degree
by
Julie Cross

I used to be “Isabel Jenkins, child prodigy.” As lame as that sounds, at least it was an identity. But now I’m not sure what I am. I just failed the most important exam of my life—the emotional readiness test required to get into a medical residency program—and it turns out my parents can’t stand each other. Now I’m trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of my life, and that means re-enrolling as a college freshman, but this time I’m shutting the books and majoring in being eighteen.

But so far, my roommate hates me and I’m not into the party scene. The only good thing about school has been getting to know my insanely hot RA. Marshall Collins makes me wonder about everything I missed while I was growing up too fast. Pretty soon we’re hanging out constantly, but for the first time, I find myself wanting more than a no-strings-attached physical relationship. And the lesson I really need is one Marsh definitely can’t teach me: love. Because I’m going to be alone forever if I don’t learn fast.

So... what did you add to your shelf this week?
I'd really like to know.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Breathless
(Jesse #1)
by
Eve Carter

First - The Blurb:

Bad boy professional Motocross rider, Jesse Morrison, knows how to leave an impression. Except lately, it has mostly been bad impressions. Frustrated and wounded, he surrounds himself with women, booze and drugs. After getting kicked out of his brother's house, he relocates to California for the summer to crash at his uncle's place.

In Santa Monica, Jesse meets the one woman who can lead him back on the right path, beautiful twenty-two year old, Niki Milani. Only one problem; she is not interested. Niki has her own demons to fight. A past that left her emotionally abandoned by her own blood, her father. She keeps her heart guarded and finds it difficult to trust a man again. Especially not a bad boy player who is more messed up than she. However, Jesse never backs down from a challenge. Armed with a sizzling attraction, he is determined to prove to Niki that there is more to him than what appears on the surface. That he is the one who can heal her heart.

Second - The Swoon:

Jesse leaned in and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. His fingers traced down my cheek and caught my chin in his hand, tilting my head back. My lips spontaneously parted for him and I felt his warm sweet breath. He pressed his lips to mine and the sandy beach fell from beneath me. My head swirled as he stroked my tongue with his, prodding and teasing. I met his advances full on, submitting to his passion, blood rushing in my veins, spiking higher and higher with each stroke of his tongue. Dragging my lower lip between his teeth, he gently pulled away. I was caught breathless.

Breathless is told from dual POV.

The story starts by introducing us to Jesse. He's at a very low point in his life and doesn't seem to care too much about himself or anyone else. Fortunately for him though, he has an older brother (Jimmy) who does. As a last ditch effort to help his flailing brother, Jimmy sends Jesse to LA to spend a little time with their Uncle Kenny in the hope that Jesse will find a way back to his old self.

In the mean time, we are also introduced to Niki, After losing her mother at the age of twelve, Niki runs off the rails for a while, and in order to bring her back on track, her father first sends her to boarding school and then on to college to study to become a lawyer. For eight years, Niki does as her father wishes without question even though she knows deep down in her heart that it is not what she wants.

It takes a while before Jesse and Niki's paths cross (33% into the book), but once they do, the story becomes explosive. Drawn to Niki in ways he couldn't have imagined, Jesse soon learns that he better shape up if he plans to keep Niki around. Niki, attracted to a bad boy for the first time, discovers that life can be exciting and fun. Finally finding a reason too, she breaks free from her fathers domineering ways.

A good story, but one that ends with a 'to be continued'.

Waiting on Wednesday # 59 ~ Right Where You Are by L.E. Bross

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Right Where You Are
by
L.E. Bross

Expected publication: November 16th, 2015

Avery Melrose is used to having it all. So when her boyfriend cheats on her, she reacts like any spoiled rich girl-she freaks out and vandalizes his new truck, Carrie Underwood style. Now she's stuck with 300 hours of community service doing road-side garbage duty.

Seth Hunter just got out of prison, and after a few hundred hours picking up litter on the side of the highway, he can finally put his mistakes behind him. If he can string together some kind of existence, maybe it'll be enough to get his sister away from their stepfather, the man who sent Seth to prison in the first place.

A romance between these two is doomed from the start. Girls like Avery want castles and white horses, and Seth is no prince charming.

But sometimes, being around Avery makes Seth think he could make something of himself. Maybe even be worthy of a girl like her. It's just too bad real life gets in the way first, tearing these two apart before they have any chance of getting to Happily Ever After.

Flight
(The Crescent Chronicles #1)
by
Alyssa Rose Ivy

First - The Blurb:

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

Second - The Tease:

Pulling me into his arms, he trailed light kisses from my ear to my neck, almost making me forget how late I was running. I pushed him away. "You better stop that, or we’re never getting out of here."
"My thoughts exactly."

I found this book a little slow to start, but once it got going and some of the mystery was revealed, it began to become a whole lot more interesting.

After experiencing one failed relationship after another, Allie swears off the opposite sex and heads down to New Orleans to work in her father's hotel over the Summer. Of course, she does not travel alone. Jess, her best friend, who is also very flirtatious, accompany's her.

Barely settled into their new home, the two girls soon learn that New Orleans is teaming with hot guys, one of which, has very quickly set his sights on Allie. Allie tries to ignore him, but Levi is persistent. Seeing Allie and her 'no guys' rule as a challenge, he pursues her relentlessly, and eventually, begins to break down her resolve.

But... Levi also has a secret. He is a Pteron, a Supernatural being. Although he is willing to share this information with Allie, there are many secrets he keeps from her, and as the list of secrets grows, so to, does her distrust of him.

Overall, Flight was an intriguing read. I enjoyed the story and will be checking out the next book... Focus, to find out how Levi manges to win Allie's trust back.

My rating: 4 out of 5

TBR Tuesday #121 ~ One to Hold (One to Hold #1) by Tia Louise

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

One to Hold
(One to Hold #1)
by
Tia Louise

Derek Alexander is a retired Marine, ex-cop, and the top investigator in his field. Melissa Jones is a small-town girl trying to escape her troubled past.

When the two intersect in a bar in Arizona, their sexual chemistry is off the charts. But what is revealed during their "one week stand" only complicates matters.

Because she'll do everything in her power to get away from the past, but he'll do everything he can to hold her.

Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. (M/F)

So now it's your turn.
Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
