Stacking the Shelves #16

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

Okay, now that the Christmas festivities are over, I once again have time to search for books to add to my collection.
A while ago, I read a book called

A Touch of Crimson (#1)
by
Sylvia Day.

This novel belongs to the Renegade Angels series  and I have spent this week adding three more to my shelf.

A Dark Kiss of Rapture (#o.5)

A Caress of Wings (#1.5)

&

A Hunger so Wild (#2)

So what did you add to your shelf?
I'd really like to know.

Here’s this week’s question:

What book do you think everyone should read? If you could gift the entire population with one book?

This is difficult for me to answer because there is not just one book, but many I would like everyone to read. However, since I can not name them all, I'll select just a few of my favorites.

In no particular order of preference:

Obsidian / Onyx / Opal
(The Lux Series)

Inescapable / Intuition / Indebted / Incendiary
(The Premonition Series)

Hush Hush / Crescendo / Silence / Finale
(Hush Hush Series)

and of course, my own Mystery Falls

I'm sorry! I realise that I have not completely addressed the question. But I simply cannot reduce my choice to just one book.

This week, my swoon comes from my current read -

Awakening
(The Watchers Trilogy #1)
by
Karice Bolton

Alone in snowy, remote Whistler village, Ana tries to build a new life since losing her parents. With a cozy condo, a sweet-faced bulldog and an evening job to leave the days free for the slopes, life slips into a great routine. If only she could shake the guilt for not remembering anything about her parents and banish the night terrors that haunt her every dream.
On a whim, Ana goes out with Athen, a guy she's just met in the Grizzly Pub... The only problem is that she feels like she already knows him.
Within 48 hours of meeting Athen and his family, Ana's world implodes. She falls for Athen quickly and before she knows it, a past life begins to resurface. As thrilling as the revelations appear at first, she fights against the chilling information that Athen is from the underworld. Soon she begins to struggle as her own supernatural gifts are slowly unveiled, and she realizes that the nightmares she's been having might be premonitions and not dreams at all.
It is up to Ana to decipher between fact and fiction before it is too late, and her new love, Athen, follows in her same fate - one that is lost between two worlds.

My Swoon

"Athen, you couldn't have done anything more perfect."

He looked down at me. His hands slowly rose up my back and cradled me as his lips touched down to mine. My senses were ignited in a way that I had never thought possible. The only way that I could help myself in this moment was to kiss him back. The warmth of his breath came over me as I held him tight, and the sensations ripped through my body. His lips stung mine like thistles. The electricity running between us was almost painful, but I couldn't stop being this close to him. It was as if a lifetime had passed between us in the last twenty-four hours of meeting, and I didn't want another second to go by without experiencing him throughout me.

Here’s this week’s question:

What have you learned from book blogging that you didn't know before about the publishing industry?

Through book blogging, I have learnt that readers are extremely supportive, not only of those writers who have agents and publish thier books through publishing houses, but also of Indie-authors who are courageous enough to venture out on their own.

I am an Indie-author and I am greatly appreciative of all the support and encouragement which has been given to me by my fellow book bloggers.

Reckless Magic
by
Rachel Higginson

Yes, I know I posted this book as my Teaser on Tuesday. But being in the middle of that very busy time of the year which we refer to as Christmas, I haven't had a lot of time for reading this past week.

Kiran stared into my eyes for several seconds looking for something I was not sure I possessed. The intensity of his expression left me breathless and the closeness of his magic made me dizzy. The electricity ran between us wildly, igniting a lightening storm in my veins.

Suddenly, his lips were against mine, and his hand tangled in my hair. He kissed me hungrily, pressing me against his body and wrapping me up in his magic. I kissed him back as if I couldn't breathe without him. Every place our bodies touched felt like a thousand degrees; he kissed me passionately, leaving my mouth for only a second to kiss my neck and jaw line, but then he was back to my lips with even more passion. I heard him sigh sweetly as though he waited for this kiss for a very long time.

I've almost completed this book now, and I have to say, that although it started slow, it has turned out to be quite an enjoyable read.  The magic which flows between Kiran and Edan is electrifying.

  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)

This weeks Teaser Tuesday comes from a novel I've only just started.

Reckless Magic
 by
Rachel Higginson

16 year old Eden Matthews has been in and out of private schools for the last two years. Kingsley is her last chance to finish high school and she is determined to simply do that. But when she meets Kiran Kendrick and her world opens to something she thought only existed in fairy tales, she's unsure what her future will hold. Suddenly she is captivated by a boy who seems to be the source of all of her problems and struggling to rescue her best friend from a foreign prison. When attempts are made on Kiran's life, Eden alone must save him. Thrust into a world that is more make-believe than reality, Eden has to find her own destiny without losing those she loves most. Reckless is an intricate story of mystery, adventure, magic and love. Eden Matthews is an unlikely heroine set on a path to save the world and her loved ones before its too late.

Now for the Tease:

"What are you wearing?" He took another step closer and lifted the hem of my sweatshirt with one finger, letting his other fingers brush lightly against my thigh.

I couldn't move. I couldn't think. I couldn't do anything with him that close.

Here’s this week’s question:

What is the last book that made you cry?
Tell us about the scene...

OMG! How do I answer this? Let me think!
Okay, I guess I would have to say, that although many books move me, few bring me to actual tears.
However, having said that, the last book that brought me close, was Finale.
Not so much due to a particular scene, but because an awesome series has come to an end.

Swoon Thursday # 17 - A Familiar Stranger

The fabulous girls over at YA Bound created this super HOT meme. Here's how it works.

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

A SECRET SOCIETY, MODERN DAY KNIGHTS, AND VAMPIRES come together in a dimension where chance intersects romance for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure proving that true love can find you in the strangest places, even far, far from home.

Minutes ahead of inevitable assassination, Elora Laiken is forcibly transported to an alternate dimension similar, but not identical, to her own. She is stranded. Alone. Far from home. A stranger in a "strangish" land. Of course a girl could suffer worse problems than having gorgeous suitors. Perhaps more importantly, in the midst of an epidemic of vampire related abductions, can she stay alive long enough to choose between an honor debt, true love, or the breathlessness of single-minded passion?

My Familiar Stranger is a full length, stand-alone, Paranormal/Fantasy Romance novel that also sets up the foundation for the Black Swan series.

I am only halfway through this novel, and so far, there hasn't been one swoon worthy moment. However, determined that there must be at least one, I searched ahead and look what I managed to find:

Taking hold of her waist with both hands, he jerked her up the wall to where they were at eye level and pushed her back again holding her in place with the press of his body. Her legs wound around him in an involuntary reflex. Before she could contemplate the fact that his body heat was surprising, he brushed his lips against hers. She jerked back bumping her head on the wall behind her, but not hard enough to do damage.

Staring at his mouth an inch away, she swallowed and said in a voice that sounded too raspy to be her own, "If you bite me, I will stake you."

He drew back just far enough so there would be no mistaking his meaning. "If I bite you, I'll stake myself."

This time his mouth covered hers with demand. For a minute she forgot about everything except the way he was crushing her mouth, ferociously, with an urgency that could only be fueled by desperation. She couldn't breathe, but she didn't care.

Sometimes, it pays to be patient.

Phoenix Light is a typical kid living in a nice home. She has two parents who are okay and an older brother she adores. Her world collapses around her when her dad rushes in the house and switches on the television to see enemy soldiers are taking over their world as they know it. Luckily, her father knew an attack was imminent and he built a vast shelter in the mountains for their family and thousands of others.
What the people on earth don’t know is the war is much more than a human take-over. The forces of good and evil are battling and the humans are their pawns. Jayden, A Dark Angel, is a servant of Vyco and sent in to lead the survivors to their death, but the first person he meets is Phoenix and he finds he can’t destroy her.
Jayden and Phoenix fall in love in spite of the battles around them and lean on their friends and family along the way. Jayden has to make the decision to choose good or evil. Will Phoenix stay human, or become immortal and join Jayden? Can she give up her friends and family? Will she have to choose?

Now for the Tease:

Jayden slowly wrapped his arms around her, letting his body heat warm her up but giving her time to pull away if she wanted. She didn't seem to want to go anywhere which certainly encouraged him. He placed his hand under her chin and tilted her head up so he could look into her wide eyes.

"I've been wanting to be alone with you all night," he whispered...
