Stacking the Shelves #113

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

Because of my heavy work schedule, I've had a few 'dry' weeks where I've been unable to add any books to my shelf.
This week, I managed to change that.

Bought:

Queen of Shadows
(Throne of Glass #4)
by
Sarah J. Maas

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she's at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past . . .

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die just to see her again. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen's triumphant return.

Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

And...

Dragon's Lair
(Wind Dragons MC #1)
by
Chantal Fernando

The first in a new sexy romance series from bestselling author Chantal Fernando about the bad boys of the Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club and the women who fall in love with them.

When I found my boyfriend cheating on me, I did something stupid.

Or should I say, someone?

Because of that mistake, I’m now stuck in a world I don’t belong in.

I’m a law student. They’re criminals. He’s the vice president of a motorcycle club. I’m a good girl with a strict upbringing. He’s my ex-boyfriend’s brother.

And I’m screwed.

So... what did you add to your shelf this week?
I'd really like to know.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

This Shattered World
(Starbound #2)
by
Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

First - The Blurb:

The second installment in the epic Starbound trilogy introduces a new pair of star-crossed lovers on two sides of a bloody war.

Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.

Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.

Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.

Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

The stunning second novel in the Starbound trilogy is an unforgettable story of love and forgiveness in a world torn apart by war.

Second - The Swoon:

I move after her and duck my head to find her lips with mine. It's all I want to do. She surges up against me like she's been waiting for this, lips parting, arms curling around my neck. Everything crowds together - grief, desire, anger, and beneath it all, a desperate hint of hope, and I can feel the sharing of it in the energy that wells up between us. I drag my hand up from her waist, my fingertips finding bare skin and the dip of her spine as hers tighten in my hair. She gasps against my mouth, a split second pause, and then we're together again as if we'd been parted for eternity.

This Shattered World is the second instalment in the Starbound trilogy. It starts a year after where These Broken Stars left off and follows the story of Jubilee - a hardcore captain of the forces - and Flynn - a leader of the local rebels.

A native of Avon, Flynn is desperately trying to save both his people and his home world. Jubilee, working under the assumption that he and his followers need to be captured and dealt with, is fighting against him.

But not everything is as it seems, and when the two of them are repeatedly thrown together, they quickly learn that both sides are being manipulated by a third party. Determined to uncover the truth, they band together, and during the process, begin to develop feelings for each other. Yep... there's some romance.

Compared to These Broken Stars, there is a lot more action in this story and definitely a lot more characters. An enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to the release of the final instalment.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday # 52 ~Their Fractured Light (Starbound #3) by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting, not on a book, but on the release of a movie.

 Their Fractured Light
(Starbound #3)
by
Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Expected publication: December 1st 2015 by Allen & Unwin Australia

A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness for their planet, and protect them from destruction. Some say Flynn’s a madman, others whisper about conspiracies. Nobody knows the truth. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were rescued from a terrible shipwreck—now, they live a public life in front of the cameras, and a secret life away from the world’s gaze.

Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head. Gideon Marchant is an eighteen-year-old computer hacker—a whiz kid and an urban warrior. He’ll climb, abseil and worm his way past the best security measures to pull off onsite hacks that others don’t dare touch.

Sofia Quinn has a killer smile, and by the time you’re done noticing it, she’s got you offering up your wallet, your car, and anything else she desires. She holds LaRoux Industries responsible for the mysterious death of her father and is out for revenge at any cost.

When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. But working together might be the best chance they have to expose the secrets LRI is so desperate to hide.

I just finished the first two books in this series, and yeah, awesome. Can't wait for the release of this instalment.

These Broken Stars
(Starbound #1)
by
Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

First - The Blurb:

It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets to the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they're worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other's arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder - would they be better off staying in this place forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won't be the same people who landed on it.

The first in a sweeping science fiction trilogy, These Broken Stars is a timeless love story about hope and survival in the face of unthinkable odds.

Second - The Tease:

Tease 1
I want to surge up against her, tangle my fingers through her hair, pull her down to meet me - and for a moment I find myself reaching for her, unable to resist. How long have I been wanting to touch her like this? A charge runs from her fingertips and into my skin, and all my careful self-control starts crashing down as I feel the heat of her near me. I want to lose myself in her, let this moment take me over completely.

Tease 2
"You're you," he repeats, his eyes full of grief. "You're the same girl who crashed on this planet with me, who I dragged through forests and over mountains, who climbed through a shipwreck full of bodies to save my life. You're the same girl I loved, and I love you now."

I don't normally read sci-fi books, but after reading so many great things about this series, I just had to give it a try. And I wasn't disappointed. Amie and Meagan have done a great job creating the story. Filled with mystery and intrigue, it keeps you guessing at the turn of every page.

Although there are only two characters for the most part, Tarver and Lilac, both of whom I liked, there is no point at which the story is boring or looses your interest. So much happens to them, and watching them change and grow from their experience is totally captivating.

Of course, for me, there also needs to be romance. I'm happy to say, it wasn't lacking. Sure, it took a while for Tarver and Lilac to admit to their growing feelings for each other, but the tension before hand was just as entertaining as the romance itself.

If you have been considering reading These Broken Stars, I suggest you do what I did, and give it a try.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

TBR Tuesday # 114 ~ Love, Chocolate, and Beer (Cactus Creek #1) by Violet Duke

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Love, Chocolate, and
Beer
(Cactus Creek #1)
by
Violet Duke

Romance has met its most unlikely match-up…

Luke Bradford is a chocolatier on a mission. After moving his chocolate shop, and newly single life, to the quirky town of Cactus Creek, Luke wants nothing more than to devote all his energy into making his business a success—by taking the romance market by storm. But his grand plans get thrown for a loop when he locks horns with the feisty beer-brewing beauty next door who calls his ‘romantic idealism’ a load of fairytale bull. Soon, driving the woman sparking nuts becomes another wickedly fun priority he simply can’t get enough of.

In his defense, she’s addictively easy to incite…and plain impossible to resist.

Beloved local brewmaster Dani Dobson is beyond riled up. It’s bad enough the new shop owner in town comes locked and loaded with both a distractingly rugged charm and sexy flashing dimples, but the whole only-in-the-movies variety of romance he’s selling—the kind her world has been crushed by before—is really doing a number on her allergy to unrealistic clichés. What’s worse, he’s created an annoyingly clever ad campaign that dubs ‘beer joints’ like hers as the “cave where romance goes to hibernate.” The nerve of that man.

Combustible chemistry or not, damn it, this means war. The stakes…very likely, her heart.

So now it's your turn.
Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
