Stacking the Shelves #76 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

This week I added three books to my shelf:

In Paperback:

A Thousand Pieces of You
(Firebird #1)
by Claudia Gray

Every Day meets Cloud Atlas in this heart-racing, space- and time-bending, epic new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure.

But Chris isn't like any other guy Claire has ever encountered and he soon gains her trust through his music and unwavering patience.

Claire has finally found her forever home and she and Chris soon find themselves falling in love.

But Chris's dreams of musical stardom and Claire's need for a stable home soon put their love in jeopardy. * ~ * ~ * ~ *

The last few weeks have been pretty hectic for me so I haven't managed to read as much as I would've liked to. As a result, I've decided to post a swoon from a book I read earlier in the year. One which captured my heart and still remains in my thoughts.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Maybe Someday
(Maybe #1)
by
Colleen Hoover

First - The Blurb:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance.

At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter's cheating on her--and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one...

Original music created for Maybe Someday by musician Griffin Peterson can be accessed through the website listed in the ebook and paperback.

Second - The Swoon(s):

I also know that my soul is compatible with Sydney's, but it's also so much more than that. Our souls aren't just compatible... they're perfectly attuned. I feel everything she feels. I understand things she never even has to say. I know that what she needs is exactly what I could give her, and what she's wishing she could give me is something I never even knew I needed.

She understands me. She respects me. She astounds me. She predicts me. She'd never once, since the second I met her, made me feel as if my inability to hear is even an inability at all.

I can also tell just by looking at her that she's falling in love with me. It serves as further proof that I need to do what should have been done a long time ago.
... Ridge

Ridge is one very sweet guy, and this was such a touching moment, I just had to share it with you.

Waiting on Wednesday #11 ~ The Return (Titan #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

The Return
(Titan #1)
by
Jennifer L. Armentrout

Expected publication: February 17th, 2015 by Spencer Hill Press

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

THE RETURN is Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, a spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series.

Teaser Tuesday #118 ~ White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

* ~ * ~ * ~ *

My Tease for this week comes from:

White Hot Kiss
(The Dark Elements #1)
by
Jennifer L. Armentrout

First - The Blurb:

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Second - The Tease(rs):

Tease 1
Roth's lips brushed mine. I sucked in a startled breath, freezing underneath him. It wasn't much of a kiss, just a tentative caress, surprisingly soft and gentle. He didn't push it or deepen the contact. He just hovered there, the butterfly kiss doing more to me than anything ever had.

And I wanted more, so much more.
... Layla

Tease 2
"See," he murmured in a thick voice, and he let go, his fingers trailing over my cheeks. "Your life isn't about all you can't do. It's about what you can do."

"Your tongue is pierced," I said dumbly.

A wicked gleam filled his gaze. "That's not the only thing pierced."

There are so many great teaser moments in this book that it was hard to stop at just two. Hope you enjoyed my choices.
Oh, and just in case you're wondering if I'm team Zayne or team Roth? Not sure yet. I think I might need to read Stone Cold Touch first.

My Rating for White Hot Kiss: 5 out of 5
