My Swoon for this week comes from:

Breakable
(Contours of the Heart #2)

by

Tammara Webber

First - The Blurb:

He was lost and alone. Then he found her.
And the future seemed more fragile than ever.

As a child, Landon Lucas Maxfield believed his life was perfect and looked forward to a future filled with promise — until tragedy tore his family apart and made him doubt everything he ever believed.

All he wanted was to leave the past behind. When he met Jacqueline Wallace, his desire to be everything she needed came so easy…

As easy as it could be for a man who learned that the soul is breakable and that everything you hoped for could be ripped away in a heartbeat.

Second - The Swoon:

Her hand gripped mine. My thumb lay across her wrist, and I was soothed by the steady rhythm of her heartbeat. The expression in her eyes - the faith and the expectation - was too strong to ignore. I brought my free hand up to her face. "I did have one other concealed motive for bringing you here." Slowly, carefully, I angled towards her and leaned in, staring into her eyes, measuring her response.

When my lips touched hers, she shut her eyes, kissing me back, parting her lips, inviting me inside. I stroked my tongue across hers, gently. Exploring her mouth was all I wanted to do - sucking her full lower lip, so sweet, and then the upper, my tongue tracing the heart-shaped curve before diving back inside and teasing across her teeth.

Third - My Thoughts:

If you think Breakable is simply a retelling of Easy from Lucas's POV - then you would be wrong. Sure, there are some sections of the book which overlap with the original story, but that is only to be expected since Lucas / Landon and Jacqueline share a relationship.

In Breakable, each chapter is divided in two parts. The first is told from Landon's POV and tells us of his childhood, of how the tragedy of his mother's death changed him from a happy-go-lucky kid into a lost and lonely soul who sometimes didn't make the best of choices. Watching Landon's life slowly spiral downwards was quite heart breaking and emotional at times, and definitely gives you a better understanding of why he is cautious when it comes to sharing his feelings.

The second part of each chapter is seen through Lucas's eyes and focuses on the present. Here, we get to see not only how Lucas really feels about Jacqueline, but also the emotional struggle he undergoes as he wrestles between following his heart and doing the right thing.

I loved reading Breakable. Tammara is a great writer and has done an amazing job in presenting Lucas's story. If you haven't read Contours of the Heart (Book 1 & 2), then I strongly recommend that you do.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Teaser Tuesday #95 ~ Easy by Tammara Webber

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Tease for this week comes from:

Easy

(Contours of the Heart #1)

by
Tammara Webber

First - The Blurb:

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup two months into sophomore year. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she's single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Leaving a party alone, Jacqueline is assaulted by her ex's frat brother. Rescued by a stranger who seems to be in the right place at the right time, she wants nothing more than to forget the attack and that night - but her savior, Lucas, sits on the back row of her econ class, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. Her friends nominate him to be the perfect rebound.

When her attacker turns stalker, Jacqueline has a choice: crumple in defeat or learn to fight back. Lucas remains protective, but he's hiding secrets of his own. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Second - The Tease:

I took a breath and blurted everything out before I was too chickenshit to say any of it. “I wanted to tell you that I just—I miss you. And maybe that sounds ridiculous—like we barely know each other, but between the emails and texts and… everything else, I felt like we did. Like we do. And I miss—I don’t know how else to say it—I miss both of you.”

He swallowed, closing his eyes and inhaling slowly. I knew he would be all rational and do-the-right-thing and he would push me away again, and I was determined not to give him that chance. But then his eyes flashed open and he said, “F*** it,” pushing me against the door, slamming his forearms on either side of my head and kissing me more forcefully than I’d ever been kissed.

I read Easy for the first time over a year ago. Since then, I have re-read all and parts of this book more times then I can count. I love Jacqueline and Lucas's story. They are without a doubt, one of my favorite book couples.

Be sure to stop by on Thursday when I will post a swoon from Breakable (Contours of the Heart #2).

This week for me its:

Crush
(The Crush Saga #1)

by
Chrissy Peebles

His precious touch could prove deadly…

When Taylor Sparks moves from New York City to Big Bear Lake, California, her life is forever changed when she meets a hot guy with winter-blue eyes named Jesse. Their attraction is instant, the chemistry undeniable. But sadly, things aren't adding up. Taylor wonders what her 'crush' is hiding. When her new friend, Fred tells her his suspicions about Jesse being a paranormal creature, Taylor laughs. But when Fred turns up dead, she believes every warning he ever told her.

Taylor is shocked to learn that Big Bear Lake isn't just glittering lakes, towering pines, and breathtaking mountains...there's more...way more than meets the eye.

Will Taylor dive into a paranormal world she knows nothing about? To be with the one her heart can’t live without?

Or will her life spiral out of control when she learns her blood is needed...to lift an ancient curse from a group of supernatural beings.

Werewolves will serve as her guardians and
protect her until the first full moon of the new year.

The night of her sacrifice…

Will she accept her destiny?

Or will she refuse to let evil swallow her up?

SO NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!
Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
