Book Boyfriend of the Week:

My very first book boyfriend comes from Mystery Falls by yours truly (Marilyn Phillips).

I felt I had to put Shadow first on the list since I was the one who created him.
What kind of a book boyfriend is he? He's gorgeous (picture Ian Somerhalder and you won't be too far off the mark), sexy, arrogant, egotistical, annoying, conceited and crazy in love with Samantha. There isn't anything he wouldn't do to keep her safe and away from the dangers which threaten her life.

Book Description:

Secrets. Lies. Deception. For the past six years, Samantha Hunt has lived with the belief that the untimely death of her parents was the result of an unfortunate accident—that by the cruel hand of fate, she had been left an orphan. But it was a lie, a terrible lie told to her by those who wanted to keep her in the dark. And the truth... when revealed, will change her life and haunt her forever.

Suddenly plagued by a series of events which find her in danger and in need of a savior, Samantha is repeatedly rescued by the mysterious and elusive Shadow—a stranger who seems to know more about her past and the tragedy which befell her family, than she does. Drawn to him despite the antagonism she feels whenever in his presence, Samantha soon discovers that Shadow is not what he appears to be. Determined to learn his true identity and why he has come to Mystery Falls, the small town in which she has spent all of her seventeen years, Samantha not only uncovers the secrets he refuses to share, but also the truth about her own past. A truth which forces her to acknowledge that things are not always as they seem, and sometimes, not even those close to you can be trusted.

Resolved to seeking justice for the unwarranted death of her parents, Samantha embarks on a journey which brings her perilously close to her own demise. Can Shadow use his angel powers to save her yet again, or this time, will he be too late.

Quotes:

(Samantha talking to Shadow)

"You're arrogant, egotistical, annoying, conceited and self centered..." unbelievably gorgeous, incredibly sexy and right now, I wish you would stop talking and just kiss me.

The last part Samantha added in my head.

(And in a later scene)

Smiling down at me with complete adoration, he whispered, "I love you. And Because I love you, I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community. If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers. But you have to know, the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

This week's question:
How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?

I believe in giving all books a fair go, so once I start, I power through.
I often find that even if the beginning is a bit slow to capture my attention, the story usually picks up and then I'm glad that I persevered.
And if it dosen't? Well at least I gave it a try.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

With All My Soul
(Soul Screamers #7)

by
Rachel Vincent
First - The Blurb:

What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It's time to kick some hellion butt...

After not really surviving her junior year (does "undead" count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.

But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has....

Second - The Swoon:

My fingers curled around a handful of his shirt when he kissed me, and I stood on my toes to give him more of me. To taste more of him. "Mmm... I murmured when his lips trailed from my mouth over my chin, then down my neck. "I missed that."

"It's only been a few hours," he whispered, though no one else could hear us. "Shouldn't eternity make us more patient?"

"It's having the opposite effect. Knowing we should have forever makes me want a little bit of forever right now..." I pulled him back up, and my lips met his again. His hands trailed slowly up my sides, and I let the feel of him chase away the anger and sadness I'd been fighting for most of the day. For most of the past two weeks, in fact. Tod felt good. Tod always felt good, even when the rest of my world was falling apart.

Third - My Thoughts:

Well, I finally made it to the end of this series. It was quite a roller coaster ride but I'm happy that everything seemed to turn out all right for Kaylee and Tod. And her family and friends.

I will say that the last hundred or so pages messed with my emotions (some very intense moments) and kept me revirted to my seat.  I couldn't walk away until the very end. Until the very last word had been read.

Needless to say, I really enjoyed the story.

My Rating 4.5 out of 5

This week's Tease comes from:

Before I Wake
( Soul Screamers #6)

by
Rachel Vincent

First - The Blurb:

I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul. The good news? He didn't get it.

The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school…

Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent "recovering," she's back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.

But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won't keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn't just gambling with her own life….

Second - The Tease:

His fingers brushed mine first and the sparks started there, then followed his touch as it skimmed slowly over my knuckles and up the back of my arm. I could hardly breathe. How could such little contact - innocent, yet scorchingly intimate - bring my entire world grinding to a halt, like the planet had suddenly stopped spinning?

His hand rested on my shoulder, warm for just an instant, then trailed up my neck to cup the back of my head. He brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, and my mouth fell open.

Tod's mouth met mine and he sucked my lower lip between his. I reached for him and when my hands brushed the hard ridges of his stomach, he moaned into my mouth. His hand tightened behind my head and that kiss deepened until I was glad I didn't need to breathe.

Third - My Thoughts:
This tease leads, without a doubt, to my absolute favorite scene in the book. Actually, in the whole series thus far.

I admit, it took a while for me to warm to Tod, but I finally have and I really like him with Kaylee. They are a good match. I still have a soft spot for Nash and I'm hoping he ends up happy. Guess I'll just have to keep reading to find out.

As for the rest of what's going on in this book. Chaotic and traumatic are two words which come to mind.

My rating on this one: 4.5 out of 5

From The TBR Pile #8

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'From The TBR Pile'. If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:

From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me, it's not one book, but a collection of three.

Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys all the ones she doesn't want. Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They're powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life's at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who's hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming.

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally. Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can't. Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick. But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he's not doing it. And no one seems to believe him. Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Because Layne has a few secrets of her own..

With power comes enemies. Lots of them.

Hunter Garrity just wants to be left alone. He’s learned the hard way that his unusual abilities come at a price. And he can’t seem to afford any allies.

He’s up to his neck in hostiles. His grandfather, spoiling for a fight. The Merrick brothers, who think he ratted them out. Calla, the scheming psycho who wants to use him as bait.

Then there’s Kate Sullivan, the new girl at school. She’s not hostile. She’s bold. Funny. Hot. But she’s got an agenda, too.

With supposedly secret powers rippling to the surface everywhere around him, Hunter knows something ugly is about to go down. But finding out what means he’ll have to find someone he can trust…

I bought these books a while back in a sale. Just need to find time to read them.

SO NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!
On your blog (and be sure to leave a link) tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
