Teaser Tuesday #149 ~ Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Tease for this week comes from:

Throne of Glass
(Throne of Glass #1)
by
Sarah J. Maas

First - The Blurb:

Meet Celaena Sardothien.
Beautiful. Deadly.
Destined for greatness.

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Second - The Tease(rs):

Tease 1
With each day he felt the barriers melting. He let them melt. Because of her genuine laugh, because he caught her one afternoon sleeping with her face in the middle of a book, because he knew that she would win.

Tease 2
"Celaena," Chaol said gently. And then she heard the scraping noise as his hand came into view, sliding across the flagstones. His fingertips stopped just at the edge of the white line. "Celaena," he breathed, his voice laced with pain—and hope. This was all she had left—his outstretched hand, and the promise of hope, of something better waiting on the other side of the line.

Tease 3
"No matter what happens," she said quietly, "I want to thank you."
Chaol tilted his head to the side. "For what?"
Her eyes stung but she blamed it on the fierce wind and blinked away the dampness. "For making my freedom mean something."

There are so many great moments in this book that I just had to share a few teasers. Hope you enjoyed them.

Celaena is an awesome character. I like her strength, her self confidence, and her amazing fighting skills. I also like, that beneath her hard exterior, there lies a compassionate heart.

Prince Dorian is handsome, debonair and quite sweet. I enjoyed reading the banter between him and Celaena. It was certainly entertaining. At times though, I did feel sorry for Dorian because of the way his parents treated him. His father was plain mean, and his mother only seemed interested in marrying him off to some pretty royal girl he felt absolutely no attachment too.

Chaol (Captain of the Guard) was a bit hard to figure out at first, but once I learned a little more about him, I can definitely say that he has a personalty I like. He pretends to dislike Celaena, but in truth, he is actually intrigued by her and starts to develop feelings for her that he seems unsure of what to do with.

Both Dorian and Chaol are amazing guys, but if I had to choose a suitor for Celaena, I think I'd pick Chaol.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

  2. Nice teasers! I just couldn't get into the series. I think there was too much pressure to like it that I ended up disliking it! Oh well, I love her ACOTAR series! So still a fan of the author!

  3. I have had no desire to read this book until your teasers and post. Haven't read anything by this author yet, but maybe I will add it to my TBR pile.

  4. I love Chaol too!! Dorian isn't bad, but I think Chaol would always have Celeana's back where as Celeana would always need to protect Dorian. Love the teasers and am so glad you finally got to read these and that you enjoyed them so much!
