My Swoon for this week comes from:

Crown of Midnight
(Throne of Glass #2)
Sarah J. Maas

Crowned by Evil.
Bound by Duty.
Divided by Love.

"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.
It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Second - The Swoon(s):

Swoon 1
There had never been any line between them, only his own stupid fear and pride. Because from the moment he'd pulled her out of that mine in Endovier and she had set those eyes upon him, still fierce despite a year in hell, he'd been walking toward this, walking to her. So Chaol brushed away her tears, lifted her chin, and kissed her.

Swoon 2
The kiss obliterated her.
It was like coming home or being born or suddenly finding an entire half of herself that had been missing.
His lips were hot and soft against hers - still tentative, and after a moment, he pulled back far enough to look into her eyes. She trembled with the need to touch him everywhere at once, to feel him touching her everywhere at once. He would give up everything to go with her.
She twined her arms around his neck, her mouth meeting his in a second kiss that knocked the world out from under her.

Swoon 3
"What does that mean?" he demanded.
She smiled sadly. "You'll figure it out. And when you do..." She shook her head, knowing she shouldn't say it, but doing it anyway. "When you do, I want you to remember that it wouldn't have made any difference to me. It's never made any difference to me when it came to you. I’d still pick you. I’ll always pick you."

Oh wow! I am just loving this series. There are so many twists and turns, so many secrets to discover and uncover. And the romance, it takes your emotions on a roller coaster ride like no other. Sarah has spun an amazing story and I can't wait to delve into the next book... Heir of Fire.

My rating: 5 out of 5

  1. I am so going to be adding this series to my TBR pile. You had me at "I'll always pick you." Great swoon.

  2. Lots of great swoons in this book. Despite it being my least favorite book of the series, I kept reading. Heir of Fire was much better, in my opinion, though the romance is even MORE effed up. LOL. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series, Marilyn!

    Have a fabulous week :)

    Check out my swoon post!

  3. I haven't read this trilogy. I'm not too into high fantasy, but I've heard good things. I did pick up A Court of Thorns and Roses and really liked it. I'm looking forward to book 2!

  4. Another series I haven't read that needs to be fixed.

  5. Oh how I absolutely adore this series! Those swoons are perfect!

  6. Wow I need a fan! I love Chaol!! Great swoon picks!!

  7. Sigh... love the swoons! That last one broke me when I was reading it, especially after we know the truth! Glad you are liking it!
