Teaser Tuesday #147 ~ Starting Over (Starting Over #1) by Evan Grace

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Tease for this week comes from:

Starting Over
(Starting Over #1)
by
Evan Grace

First - The Blurb:

Bellamy Carmichael’s finally come home after staying away for six years. There’s just one problem, Luke Carter…

Six years ago she seduced him, but a realization had him turning his back on her and became the cause of her long exodus. But with her brother’s imminent deployment Bellamy knows she’s bound to see him.

Luke Carter made the mistake of crossing a line he never should’ve crossed six years ago…

He knows he’s the reason why Bellamy avoids home, and with her coming back home he’s hoping to make things right. He just wasn’t expecting her to look so damn beautiful.

However, there’s one more problem, Bellamy’s been keeping a secret from Luke for past six years. When passion builds between them she knows that she must tell Luke the truth, but will it bring them closer together?

Or will it drive them apart for good?

Second - The Tease:

"You can do this," she whispered to herself, over and over. Bellamy knew it was now or never. She eased the door open slowly and as quiet as she could, she padded down the hallway."

I don't often manage to keep my teasers to a few lines, but today, I did.

Starting Over is written from multiple POV, which at times, makes the story a little difficult to follow. Personally, I would have preferred if it was only told from Bellamy and Luke's POV. The rest seemed a little unnecessary and repeated things which were already explained.

I did like all the characters though. Each one was unique in their own way and it was nice to read a book where both main characters - Bellamy and Luke - had so many family and friends surrounding and supporting them as they struggled to resolve issues of the past.

Although their is some sadness in the story, it is not a deeply intense read, and the ending leaves you with a satisfied feeling.

My Rating: 3.5 - 4 out of 5 (Yeah, I had a little trouble deciding with this one.)

  1. If the story is about two of them why are there other points of view telling it? Nice tease- does she make it through the door?

  8. Too many POV's can make it harder to relate to the storyline. Nice tease though!
