This weeks Swoon comes from another book I was offered by Musa Publishing for review.

Love Sucks
by
Sage Collins

First - the Blurb

Mailee Jones is about to answer the age old question: "How much love would a love sucker suck if a love sucker fell in love?"

Mailee is a Haustrix, an otherwise normal girl with a demon gene that causes her to consume love from any human she touches. Afraid of draining anyone completely, she's been leading an isolated life, relying on Eric, a hunky lust-draining Haustor and the only person she can safely touch. She's content to avoid humans for all but the quickest possible hand-brushes with the dreaded cheerleaders to keep from starving.

Until she meets Logan, a diabetic who is the first human to understand Mailee's anguish over her diet. But growing close to him means risking his love for her. Mailee's convinced it's time to do something--anything--to become human. But the only antidote requires her to release and be systematically infected by demons representing each of the Seven Deadly Sins. Sloth and Pride? Okay, fine, but sins like Wrath and Envy aren't so easy, as proven when possessed-Mailee punches the cheerleader who's making eyes at Eric. Can she honestly get through all the sins?

Not to mention this new issue--is she interested in Eric instead? Because if she turns human, she'll lose him. Forever.

Second - My Thoughts

When I first read the title to this book, I made the assumption that it would be a story involving vampires. Then I read the blurb and realized my mistake. This tale is definitely not about fanged creatures which drink blood to survive. However, having said that, the protagonist (along with several of her friends) does have an unusual diet, one that does not include human food.
Mailee (Mai) is a Haustrix (yeah, I didn’t know what that was at first either), a girl with a demon gene who needs to feed off the love of others in order to survive. She has two close friends - Eric and Justin - who are also Haustors, and therefore the only two people she can touch without worrying about draining them of their emotions. Eric feeds off lust, while Justin feeds off inhibitions.
Mai desperately wants to be human, and as the story unfolds, she discovers a way to make her wish come true. It involves using a special bracelet to release seven demons which each infect her with a deadly sin. Fortunately for Mailee, these infections are temporary and only last for a short time.
Just before she starts her journey to become human, Mai meets Logan, a diabetic who understands what it means to be different. Discovering her true identity and her desire to change, he decides to help her. Since forever, Mai has had a crush on Eric, but now with Logan in the picture, she feels torn between the two. As she nears the end of her quest, Mai must make a choice - give up on her dream and remain a Haustrix so that she can be with Eric, or become human and start a life with Logan. What will she choose?
I quite enjoyed this story. It was different from my usual paranormal reads - angels, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, etc… The writing style was good, easy to follow, although towards the end, the scenes seemed a little rushed.
My Rating - 4 out of 5

And now for the Swoon
His hands moved from my forehead and into my hair. Something half giggle, half-sob escaped me. I knew it'd distress him, but i couldn't stop the tears running down my face.
"Shh." His lips were on my cheek, replacing my tears with the lingering imprint of his lips.
And then they met mine. I didn't need to be a Haustrix to feel his love for me. Everything I needed to know was there in his kiss. The way his mouth seemed a perfect fit for mine, the way our tongues met. He tasted  like sugar.
