Okay, so this weeks Tease comes from a book written by one of my favorite authors.
My Blood Approves
First - The Blurb
Teenager Alice Bonham's life feels crazy after she meets Jack. With his fondness for pink Chuck Taylors and New Wave, he's unlike anyone she knows. Then she meets his brother, Peter. Even though he can't stand the sight of her, she's drawn to him. Falling for two guys isn't even the worst of her problems. Jack and Peter are vampires, and Alice finds herself caught between love and her own blood.
Second - My Thoughts
I have been a fan of Amanda Hocking since I first read The Trylle Trilogy. Granted, it has taken some time for me to read My Blood Approves even though it had been sitting on my eReader for a while now. But as they say, better late then never.
So, what did I think. I was instantly intrigued by Alice, a young 17 year old girl, who while out partying with her friend Jane, suddenly finds herself in a situation from which she needs rescuing. Enter Jack. Jack is moderately gorgeous, alluring and somewhat mysterious. Attracted to Alice, he immediately befriends her.
As their relationship begins to develop, she introduces him to her family. Mom, who is barely there because she works constantly. And Milo, Alice's younger brother. In turn, Jack takes Alice home to meet his family... Mae and Ezra, who seem to be completely in awe of Alice, and Jack's 'brother' - Peter. Peter wants to hate Alice, but at the same time, he is drawn to her as she is to him.
Alice is aware that Jack and his family are different, that they seem to have supernatural tendencies, and eventually, it is revealed to her that they are vampires. From this point on, she wrestles with the choice of remaining human and losing their friendship, or becoming one of them and losing what's left of her family.
Did I enjoy the story? For the most part yes. I liked the way in which Amanda built the growing relationship between Alice and Jack. She puts a unique spin on vampire mythology, although at times, some of her explanations were a tad confusing and could have been described a little more clearly. Overall, the book was a fun read and I look forward to continuing the series.
My Rating - 4 out of 5
Third - My Teaser
"Yeah?" His lips curled mischievously, and I knew that I had accidentally dared him to scare me. He twirled the stool around so my back was to the island, and then he stood in front of me, essentially trapping me between him and the island. His face was right in front of me, and his eyes were dancing. "What about now? Are you scared?"
"Nope. Am I supposed to be?" I smiled back at him.
"You probably should be." His voice had gone low and husky, and his eyes were almost translucent as he studied mine.
Then I saw his eyes lower, looking at my neck, and my heart, beating of it's own accord, sped up.
