Swoon Thursday was first bought to us by YA Bound.
Since they are no longer with us, Naomi @ Naomi's Reading Palace has kindly created a central meet up point for those of us who wish to continue to share our swoons.
So ladies (and any gents who feel so inclined) please leave a comment below, and then head on over there to link up and spread the love.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Runes
(Runes #1)
by
Ednah Walters

First - The Blurb:

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

Second - The Swoon:

I looked into his beautiful sapphire eyes and found myself drowning, melting. He traced my jaw line then my lips with his finger. Unparalleled craving rocked through me, and I grabbed a handful of his shirt to keep from falling. He lowered his head, and I stopped breathing. All my senses focused on him.

Then our lips met.

A tingling started on my lips and skidded under my skin. His teeth nipped my lip, and I gasped, giving him access to my mouth. He gently soothed the bite with his tongue then slipped past my lips to find my tongue. The first taste of him and my world exploded. I ceased to exist. I became part of something bigger, better, and brighter.

Attending high school, spending time with her friends, Cora and Eirik (who she has known for most of her life and has been crushing on), and being part of the local swim team, Raine 's life seems normal enough.

Then... a stranger moves in next door and everything begins to change. Things start to happen, and suddenly, no one on the swim team is safe, including Raine herself.

Although Torin appears like your average hot guy, it quickly becomes apparent to Raine that he is not what he seems, and that the sudden accidents only started when he appeared.

At first, Raine tries to keep her distance from Torin, but as an attraction begins to form between them, her resolve is soon eroded. Although he is bound by an oath not to reveal his secrets, Raine eventually begins to put the pieces together from his cryptic comments, and finally, she learns the truth.

I liked the story Ednah created. I liked the way she revealed things slowly to keep the interest. What I am not so sure about, is the ending. Although it's not exactly a cliff hanger, it did leave me with a feeling of 'okay, so how is this going to be resolved?' I guess the only way I can answer that, is to acquire the next book and read on.

My rating: 4 out of 5

  2. Ah! I've been seeing this book around for years, but kind of kept passing it straight. This excerpt is something steamy! I wouldn't have guessed it'd be in this book, to be honest. Lovely swoon post, Marilyn! :)
