Teaser Tuesday # 170 ~ Up in Flames by Nicole Williams

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Up in Flames

First - The Blurb:

Elle Montgomery is a good girl. Born and raised in a small town in Washington State, she's always done exactly what she's supposed to and what everyone expects of her. She helps out at the cafe her family owns, and has been dating the pastor's son, Logan, since she was allowed to go on her first date at sixteen. Having just graduated from high school, and knowing that Logan wants to put a ring on her finger and get married as soon possible, Elle feels like her life is already mapped out. Cole Carson's life couldn't be more different. An adrenaline junkie, he has worked as a smoke jumper for the past three summers, roaming from town to town following the fires. Cole lives his life day to day and dreads the thought of putting down roots or being tied to one person.

Following an awkward, embarrassing first meeting, Elle knows she should keep away from Cole and the feelings he ignites in her. And Cole just can't help but pursue Elle, the girl who seems immune to his charms. But as summer heats up, their attraction grows, and as tensions between them run high, Elle and Cole realize that one way or another, they're going up in flames...

Second - The Tease:

He kissed my forehead and the warmth I felt morphed and heated into something deeper. His mouth on my skin created an instant fire that was next to impossible to resist.

But tonight, when I was all instinct, the moon was full, and should was on sabbatical, it wasn't just next to impossible to resist. It was positively impossible.

Lifting my head from his shirt, I slid my hand to his mouth. "I'm going to kiss you now, Cole," I said, not recognising this girl saying these words and touching him this way. "And if you stop me, I'm going to wear you down. Because you might be persistent, but I've got the power of persuasion on my side."

The lips I was tracing my fingers over lifted into a smile. "Not if I kiss you first."

I have had this book sitting on my shelf for well over a year now. I don't know why or what took me so long to read it, but I'm glad it finally made it to the top of my TBR pile.

Although there are aspects of the story I'm not particular on board with (ie. cheating), it was written in such a way that I could kind of understand why Elle behaved the way she did.

Totally controlled by her father for most of her life, she was barley allowed to make a decision for herself. There was no choice about going to college, selecting a career, or deciding when and who she would marry. Although she loved Logan, the only boy she was allowed to date, he was not the love of her life.

Enter Cole. Ruggedly handsome, totally confident and a smoke jumper (yeah, I had to look that up to), he brings out a side of Elle, which up until now, she has kept hidden.

A touching story which was quick and easy to read.

My rating: 4 out of 5

  4. I have this one too... I must get to it.
No one is a fan of cheating, but we're not perfect, so I don't think all characters are either, so I like to see if this is di=one right in a book.
I like the tease... looks like they were both holding off!

  5. Persuasion, huh? Must admit that I wonder why he needs to be persuaded. Great choice.
