Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This weeks Tease comes from

Golden Blood
(A Time Shift Novel)
by
Melissa Pearl

First - The Blurb:

Gemma Hart never knows when her father is going to whisk her back in time. Her toes start tingling and she has a few minutes to find a secret haven where she can disintegrate and appear in another time and place. While “across the line,” her training and skills are put to the test as she completes a mission that will change history for the lucky few her father has selected.

Gemma's parents are adamant that secrecy is paramount to her family’s safety. If people knew what they were capable of, they could be "used and abused", as her mother always says. Afraid she might accidentally utter the truth and break the ancient oath of her people, Gemma spends her school days as a loner. Only one thing can throw her sheltered life askew... Harrison Granger.

Harrison never expected to talk to the strange Hart girl, but after a brief encounter he can't stop thinking about her. He begins a campaign to chisel away her icy veneer and is met with unexpected consequences. As he slowly wins this girl over, he enters a surreal world that has him fighting to keep his newfound love and his life.

Second - My Thoughts:

When I started to read this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. I haven't read too many novels on time travel (I think this might be my second) so I did guess that it would be a little different from my usual paranormal reads. And it was.

Did I like it? Yes! This is a well written story about a girl who can time travel - Gemma - and a normal human boy - Harrison - who despite their obvious differences, fall in love. It is not an easy journey for them. Gemma's parents are extremely strict and do not condone relationships with people not of their world. As a result, Gemma insists that their love for each other remains a secret. But like all secrets, the truth has a way of being discovered.

Melissa has done a great job in presenting the story. It flows well and is easy to follow. This is the first in a Trilogy. Black Blood and Pure Blood continue from where Golden Blood leaves off.

My rating - 4.5 out of 5

Third - A Tease or Two:

"Gemma." Harrison licked his lips. "Gemma, what... what just happened? You disappeared. You... you vanished! And now you're here. You're... you're here and you're... you're... naked!"

I really liked this line - the innocence of Harrison's statement.

And...

His eyes lit with amusement. "Your birthmark's showing."

Gemma couldn't swallow down her gasp. It came out all breathy as she reached for her shirt and tried to yank it across her collarbone. He stopped  her with quick fingers. She kept her eyes on his face as he moved her shirt aside and gently slid his thumb over her skin. It burned hot.

His fingers lingered there for a moment  as if wondering at the searing sensation then began moving. They danced over her flesh and came to rest on the back of her neck. His thumb gently rubbed the edge of her jaw.

She could barely breathe as he leaned towards her with a soft smile. Their lips met for a delicate introduction. Gemma had never felt anything like it in her life. A tender flame danced along her soft skin then grew with fervor as Harrison deepened the kiss. His tongue was warm and delicious.

The world around her became fuzzy as every sense in her body drew itself into the kiss. It was magic... and she knew that one taste was never going to be enough. There was no way she could live without this. The implications of that fact were deadly.

I'm sorry this tease is a bit long, but I just couldn't cut this one short.
