Stacking the Shelves #92 & Weekly Wrap-Up

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

This week, I added the following books to my shelf.

Wake
(The Watersong Quartet #1)
by
Amanda Hocking

Fall under the spell of Wake—the first book in an achingly beautiful new series by celebrated author Amanda Hocking—and lose yourself to the Watersong.

Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

And...

Until the End
(Sea Breeze #9)
by
Abbi Glines

The backstory that fans have been clamoring for—how Rock and Trisha fell in love—is the final installment in the Sea Breeze series from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines. And don’t miss the sizzling Epilogue, where Abbi wraps up all the Sea Breeze couples’ stories!

Trisha Corbin always knew how to hide a bruise. With her momma’s boyfriends unable to keep their hands off of her, she had no choice. And as long as it meant the guys wouldn’t go near her little brother, Krit, it was worth it. But her days of dreaming that Prince Charming would ever come rescue her are far, far in the past.

Rock Taylor always had a plan. Through football, he would rise above the life he was born into. A full ride to play for a major college team was within his reach—assuming he didn’t let anything get in his way. But scoring a date with the hottest girl in Sea Breeze was proving harder than expected. Trisha Corbin was every man’s walking fantasy, and she wouldn’t even glance his way.

When Rock finally does get Trisha in his truck, it isn’t for a date. It’s because he picks her up on the side of the road, beaten and bruised and walking to the local hospital. Before Rock knows it, football is no longer his life. Trisha Corbin is. And he’ll do anything to save her. And keep her.

In addition to Rock and Trisha’s love story, this special novel contains the wrap-up stories of all your favorite Sea Breeze couples: Sadie and Jax, Marcus and Low, Cage and Eva, Preston and Amanda, Jess and Jason, Krit and Blythe, and Dewayne and Sienna.

Weekly Wrap-Up

Well, today marks the first day of the kids school holidays.
No getting up early.  No lunches to be packed. And no rushing out the door for the next two weeks. Yay!
It's been a hectic term for my family so we sure can use the break.

As an early Easter present, I took my daughter to see Insurgent. Wow! It was just as amazing as the first. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one to be released. Shame it's going to be a while.

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Hover
(The Taking #2)
by
Melissa West

First - The Blurb:

On Earth, seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander was taught to never peek, but if she hopes to survive life on her new planet, Loge, her eyes must never shut. Because Zeus will do anything to save the Ancients from their dying planet, and he has a plan.

Thousands of humans crossed over to Loge after a poisonous neurotoxin released into Earth's atmosphere, nearly killing them. They sought refuge in hopes of finding a new life, but what they became were slaves, built to wage war against their home planet. That is, unless Ari and Jackson can stop them. But on Loge, nothing is as it seems...and no one can be trusted.

Second - The Swoon:

I'm tired of allowing my mind to fight my heart. I lean down until my breath dances with his and close my eyes, allowing my lips to caress his so lightly it's barely a touch, but the impact is immediate. He jars awake, and I slowly open my eyes to see his staring surprised, into mine.

"I thought you were asleep," I whisper.

"Clearly, I am." And then in one move he cups my face with his hands and sits us up, crushing his lips onto mine. I pull him still closer, wanting my body as fixed to his as possible, finding strength in his powerful arms and the sureness of his kiss, as though he was always here, waiting for this moment.

Hover pretty much continues from where Gravity left off, only now, we are on the planet Loge and Ari is the outsider. With time running out and Zeus still determined to gain control of Earth and acquire it for the Ancients, the odds are against Ari as she struggles to find a way to defeat him and save her own kind.

Although Jackson is doing his best to help her, he is also keeping secrets. Feeling somewhat betrayed by him and angered by his reluctance to open up to her, Ari's emotions become conflicted. It is only when she discovers the lengths Zeus will go to, to get what he wants, that she finally realizes where her heart truly lies.

I enjoyed this installment as much as the first. The only downside was that it ended on a cliff hanger and I'm still waiting to get my hands on a copy of Collide (Book 3)

My Rating: 4 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday #27 ~ Changing His Game by Megan Erickson

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Changing His Game
by
Megan Erickson

Expected publication: April 28th 2015 by Entangled: Brazen

He controls the game, but she’s rewriting all the rules…

Marley Lake is no stranger to awkwardness, but getting caught watching a dirty GIF by the company’s hot new IT guy exceeds even her standards. That is, until she realizes he's as turned on by it as she is. But with a big promotion on the line, she refuses to let her current dry spell be her downfall. Maybe.

Austin Rivers has no business lusting after the irresistible editor of Gamers Magazine. He's a secret partner in the business—and technically Marley’s boss. One look at that GIF, though, and he’s ready to install a whole lot more than just software…as long as she never finds out who he really is.

But reality’s not as virtual as it seems, and when Austin’s identity jeopardizes Marley’s promotion, he has to change his game or risk losing the only woman with the cheat code to his heart.

I saw this one featured on another blog a few weeks back and it caught my attention.
Now I'm waiting on it too.

My Tease for this week comes from:

Gravity
(The Taking #1)
by
Melissa West

First - The Blurb:

In the future, only one rule will matter:

Don’t. Ever. Peek.

Seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander just broke that rule and saw the last person she expected hovering above her bed — arrogant Jackson Locke, the most popular boy in her school. She expects instant execution or some kind of freak alien punishment, but instead, Jackson issues a challenge: help him, or everyone on Earth will die.

Ari knows she should report him, but everything about Jackson makes her question what she’s been taught about his kind. And against her instincts, she’s falling for him. But Ari isn’t just any girl, and Jackson wants more than her attention. She’s a military legacy who’s been trained by her father and exposed to war strategies and societal information no one can know — especially an alien spy, like Jackson. Giving Jackson the information he needs will betray her father and her country, but keeping silent will start a war.

Second - The Teaser:

He glances down at me and lifts his hands to my face, tracing a line down my jaw. His fingertips hesitate at my lips and his gaze drops. I draw a breath, and then his lips find mine. It's an explosion of emotions - first warmth, then contentment, then fear, so much fear. Of what this will mean, of whether we can succeed, of the guilt that threatens to overcome us both. Because of all the things we should be doing right now, after so many people died, this isn't it.

This isn't it.

Jackson pulls away, resting his forehead against mine as though he can't stand to move farther away. "I'm sorry."

"I know."

It's the year 2140 and Earth is nothing like we know it. Cities have been destroyed, lives have been lost, and an alien race known as the Ancients are trying to take control. Why? Because their own planet - Loge - is dying and they need a new place to live. Not surprisingly, the human race isn't going to give up Earth without a fight.

Ari isn't your typical teenage girl. In line behind her father to become the next Commander of what's left of the human race, she has been trained for battle. Kick-ass in every sense of the word, she is top of her class and rivaled only by one other... Jackson.

Jackson is your typical smoking hot alien who wavers between sweet and caring, and cocky and arrogant. Planted as a spy on Earth, he has managed to keep his identity a secret from the humans which surround him. That is, until the night he decides to expose himself to Ari.

Aware that she should tell her father but curious to know why Jackson chose her to confide in, Ari decides to hold onto his secret. As they grow closer and feelings which should not occur between the two races begin to develop, Ari suddenly finds herself in a position where she must decide which side she wants to be on. And the decision is not clear cut.

There are many twists and turns in the story and a few times I was a little confused with what was going on. However, it is an intriguing read and I look forward to reading the next installment  - Hover - to see what happens next.

My Rating: 4 out of 5
